Full Version: Mariners to Mets: Hands off Lou !

Munson Man
Apparently the Mets asked the Mariners for permission to talk to Lou Piniella about their vacant manager job, and the Mariners denied the request. I can completely understand Lou wanting to get away from the Mariners, who next year should be a sub-.500 team that only avoids the cellar thanks to the existence of the Texas Rangers, but why on Earth would he consider going to as dysfunctional an outfit as the Mutts? Also, I can't believe Mariner management would really want to keep Piniella commited to them if he really wanted out, unless it's a ploy to get compensation....

Word is now that the Mets are interested in Buck Showalter....wouldn't he and Steve Phillips (both egocentric control freaks) make a great combination?....I know Fred Wilpon is getting old but he isn't THAT crazy and senile yet, is he? -- then again, maybe he is if he fired Valentine and KEPT Phillips on as GM ....Mets fans (which I am not) have got to hope that Wilpon hasn't given Phillips (the same idiot who signed Burnitz, Vaughn, D'Amico, Alomar, and Ordonez to lucrative deals) total "free rein" to hire whoever he wants as field manager....his track record is as bad as any GM in the game (and that includes Chuck Lemar in Tampa Bay).

Ive heard Pinella wants to stay here for the extreme mountain biking and the beautiful people.

M's will be there again next year, yankees can just reflect on the past couple years for awhile because they wont be.
