Another preseason, another chance to lobby Cyd and Jim for an Outsports NCAA football poll!
Please raise your hand if you wish to join the petition.

Ring-a-ling! yes! One request, though, if we have pollsters this year, let's make sure to get more than 3 and to have them from different parts of the country.

Gosh it's early for the Outsports CFB poll...usually it's done in August ... but I'm all up for having one done early =)
Herr Tiggee
Jul 8 2003, 04:55 PM
Yeah, Big Theta. But I thought it would be good to get a ground swell of support launched early in case Jim and Cyd were inclined to not do the poll this year. The poll is burdensome for the guys that run this board - someone loses a Sunday when they have to slap this thing together. And I figured that if we were going to whine like babies for the poll, its better to let 'em know how many people are interested very early, rather than very late (i.e. late August).
Scrambling to put something in place at the last minute is always awful, and it would be too much to demonstate the interest level at the last minute for an already burdensome project.

AU Tiger,
Remember when I took over those couple weeks when Cyd was on vacation (or was it Jim)? It really wasn't a lot of work if you know how to set it up correctly. If Jim or Cyd don't want to do it, I'll pick it up anyway. It was a lot of fun (and you wouldn't believe what some of the pollsters did).

23 chimees so far. A quick look through the profiles might shed some light on our conference biases, or at least point out where we need some additional voices to make the poll more "balanced."
What conference is affiliated with your favorite team?
5 – SEC (Auburn 2, Arkansas, Florida, S Carolina)
5 – Undeclared (based on Outsports profiles)
4 - Big 12 (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, Texas A&M)
3- ACC (FSU 2, Maryland)
3 – Big East (Miami, Va Tech, WVU)
2 – Big 10 (Illinois, Wisconsin)
1 – Pac 10 (Oregon)
The SEC and Big 12 seem well represented. We are especially light on the Big 10 and Pac 10 side. Spread the word.
Those reported as "undeclared" were B Man, Copman, Munson Man, William1865Man, and George Viking Man. Man, that’s too many friggin "mans."

I'm too ready for the upcoming season ... which is my 15th year of doing college football rankings, even got my rankings ready, with my 7th annual "surprise" #1 to start, which is almost like an SI curse cause only North Carolina (my PS #1 in 97) finished in the top 5.

I offer some "mid-major" conference diversity and previous participation in two of the last years' polls. So I'd sure like to participate this year, too.
CSU is ranked 25th in the ESPN poll, so I'll vote for the Rams as long as it is warranted.

29 chimees now. So now we update.
What conference is affiliated with your favorite team?
5 – SEC (Auburn 2, Arkansas, Florida, S Carolina)
5 – Undeclared (you known who you are)
5 - Big 12 (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas, Tex A&M, Tex Tech)
4 – Big East (Miami, Va Tech, WVU, Pitt)
4 – Big 10 (Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio St)
3 - ACC (FSU 2, Maryland)
1 – Pac 10 (Oregon)
1 - Conf USA (Colorado St)
1 - Independent (%#&!@ Irish) wink
Munsonman declared undying love for Notre Dame. And a new postee, jerseyguy, has replaced Munsonman in the undeclared bracket. Who do ya pull for, jerseyboi? Give it up.
Nice show from the Big 10. Pac 10 needs to pull up the gap.
And welcome to Outsports, buckeyefanphilly. That's a mouthful. Be aware that this board is crawling with Philly fans of some stripe or another. You'll love the neighborhood.

Hey Tiger... As a UCF season ticket holder, I think you should count them as my allegiance team. Now CrocJamie, before you say anything, I am NOT abandoning my beloved Seminoles. I am just giving some well-deserved support to the Golden Knights. They don't get any from the local media, so I gotta help them out wherever I can. So move me from the ACC column and create a MAC column.

LOL, Jim, just because I said once that you appeared to have more

sense. wink
Good on ya for supporting UCF. In recognition of your honorable gesture, but in keeping with rivalry, count me in as supporting the USF Bulls. A good buddy of mine is a recent USF grad, so that makes us both

"Hisss!" [Cat runs away]
That was a catty comment. Remember who jilted who? Miami will get whatever it deserves either via court or on a road trip to one of the victims' turf. I suspect the court case flops, but UM will lose ONE road game as they close out their B-East affiliation.

At last, we have affirmation. No need to continue the thread. I assume an email blast will be cascaded to those posting here and from the huge list of pollsters from previous years.
Thanks, Jim.
