There have been two bowls so far and both have been stinkers.... 37-7 and 38-8 blowouts. Oregon's performance against BYU was sad. The Ducks started out the year so strong and looked great back in September but really just fell apart as the year went along. Hopefully the bowls will get better in the next week or two. As I was looking at the bowl matchups, there are a ton of duds out there. And the Ducks uniforms? OMG, those were hideous. I've actually liked some of their past uniforms that everyone hated, but not last night.

I know a lot of people who didn't like last night's yesterday! They were very ugly I will admit haha..

Yes, the Ducks tanked this year. Nov was terrible. Thought they'd snap out of it, but clearly they didn't. Dixon was hot in Sep/Oct but lost it the last 5 games. IMO, switching QBs is a terrible idea. Doesn't allow either QB to gain confidence. Oregon should have stayed with either Leak or Dixon.

That said, BYU is an underrated team. So is Hawaii.

Bowls should get better for the Pac-10 now - at least for Cal and OSU. I'm putting my play money on Michigan though.

Alas, there's always next year...

Anyone going to the Emerald Bowl?

Pac-10 is 0-2 in bowl games......hopefully Oregon State, UCLA, USC, and CAL will win!!!

Oregon got smacked up today in the Las Vegas Bowl. Maybe those helmets were beaming too much light haha..GOOD JOB to BYU.

Woo hoo!! It was damn cold but I enjoyed the Duck beat down. Go BRUINS!!

...well.....make that 0-3 now. The PAC-10 was rated as the #1 conference by the Sagarin Ratings......but that was before the bowl games started.

Was at the Emerald Bowl last night. It was a good game, but I have to admit I left my Pac-10 loyalties at the gate and was rooting more for FSU (the other, other FSU, that is). Had to go with Bobby on this one. Although, the guys in our section seemed SF locals who were rooting for both teams whenever they made good plays.

Have to say, though, that with all the boasting of the Emerald Bowl for record-setting attendance, etc., it's a terrible venue for football and a totally 2nd-rate bowl game. FSU's band didn't come. UCLA's band didn't do a halftime show. This horrible "international recording duo" sang the national anthem and entertained at halftime. They were booed - in true SF fashion! Half of the concession booths were closed and the lines for the open vendors were long all evening. Took most of the second quarter to get our beers and hot dogs.

Liked the crowd, though. More UCLA than FSU fans, but a healthy amount of noise from both factions. Had to laugh at the (mostly UCLA) fans who showed up in shorts and tshirts. What were they thinking? This is SF in December - where 50 degrees feels like 10 below anywhere else.

Going to the game in person is a great experience, but according to your discription, I am glad that I stayed in my warm house and watched it on the TV. The advantage to watching the games at home are many; no line at the restrooms, no line at the concession stand, great up close view of the play with re-plays, you get to pick the person you sit next too, you can watch in your boxers, no problems finding a parking place... the list goes on.

What advantages do you have watching from home?

Snacks are definitely cheaper at home but I enjoy games at Berkeley too. Especially if it's live from Tightwad Hill! smile.gif

I've always thought watching a football game in a baseball stadium is weird. The angle of the seats and everything is a bit off for football. And having both teams' benches on the same side of the field is bizarre. When Fresno State played UCLA a couple of years ago in the now-defunct Silicon Valley Bowl, the Bruins' band didn't perform a halftime show either, but Fresno State's did. Hmm. That's funny about the halftime entertainment and the "international recording duo." That reminds me of the December 2000 Silicon Valley Bowl I attended (Fresno State vs. Air Force) in San Jose. The halftime entertainment? A little-known group that received very little attention that night... Destiny's Child featuring Beyonce!
