Full Version: Did ESPN mess up and hint to Heisman Winner?

Hey all,

Getting up this morning and programming my reminders for sports watching this morning I wanted to make sure I set Heisman announcement first and then I remembered that on ESPN classics, they were going to show a game of the Heisman winner's 2001 season.

So I flipped ahead to that time slot and low and behold it's Penn State vs Miami from this year.

Does that mean Ken Dorsey wins??

They have been making a big deal out of there is no clear front runner and it could be anyone that it seems weird to give away the winner like this...

Anyway, I'm still gonna root for the sexy boy, Joey Heatherton, er Harrington since David Carr didn't make a finalist.

LOL Yes, I see how anyone could make that mistake biggrin.gif but sorry, I don't know the answer to your question. I guess we all will soon, though.

Two possibilities:

1. The ESPN webpage designers were doing their pages ahead of time, and put together four pages, one for each candidate. They were careless and (maybe after testing) left the Dorsey page up on the "real (public) site...

-or

2. GOTCHA!!!!!!

good point wurm.

This was actually taken from the Adelphia cable schedule so I went to the ESPN classic site and they are still being mysterious about the possible game that could be shown. But Adephia is confident that they are showing Miami vs Penn state (which is a blow out, BTW) twice tonight.

It's looking like schoolboy Ken is gonna win as a Jr.

Sorry Joey.

Here's my final view and vote/prediction:

Dorsey
Virtues: All wins, few mistakes, leadership under a new coach
Complicating factor: Unspectacular

Sexy Rexy
Virtues: Stats Numbers and Records, has to put up with Spurrious
Complicating Factor: Soph who's aready said he intends to come back for two more seasons (bye bye Brockie cool.gif

Erotic E
Virtues: Multi-dimensional offensive threat, leadership, "career award" factor
Complicating factor: Option QB, lack of numbers, bad feeling from CU game, hideous tattoo on upper arm

The David Schwimmer Wannabe:
Virtues: West Coast (guilt by voters), billboard fame, numbers almost as good as Rexy
Complicating factors: West Coast (voters less exposed to his games), billboard backlash, bad last game vs instate rival

PREDICTION: DORSEY .... (because he will come across as the "safe" choice)

IF I HAD A VOTE: CROUCH (as long as he keeps the tattoo covered) ..... for the diffeence his presence meant to his team
Maddog
Before this Adelphia/ESPNC spoiler, I woulda laid money on Crouch just because when all signs "appear" equal, go for the "career" boy. We'll see shortly.

KEN DORSEY = GINO TORRETTA

They're probably going to give the Heisman to him because he's the best player on the allegedly best team. But he'll be lucky to have as good a pro career as Gino Torretta.

Eric Crouch and Rex Grossman are apparently being punished for their defenses being awful in their last starts. I didn't know they were supposed to go in there and play LB. (Although Eric Crouch, who is CFL-bound, admit it, would be a fantastic DB, wouldn't he?)

I still don't understand why the best player in college football 2001 - the biggest impact skills players in next year's draft - is not even among the finalists: DAVID CARR. This thing about having to be on a Top 5 team to win the Heisman (when only teams ranked in the Preseason Top 10 are eligible for such a final ranking, just ask BYU and pouty-lipped Luke Staley) is causing the award to lose credibility fast ... faster than when they gave it Charlie Ward. Or Gino Torretta.

O most esteemed panjandrum of the land of Clark, I'll have you know that Miami QB's who win Heismans are assured of great success!

So what if it is as a stockbroker - there are plenty of rich old fogys in Boca who need to be separated from their money biggrin.gif

Well the more that I was sure Dorsey had won, the more I was rooting for Eric Crouch.
So instead of the Miami vs Penn State game advertised, it's Neb vs Okla.

Hell I'm so excited for Crouch that I'm rooting for LSU over TN. Don't tell my BF!!

Tune in and enjoy!

And the happiest people in college football??? The BCS committee, with BYU going the way of Joseph Smith against Hawaii. Final score 72-45.
