according to ESPN it may have happened tonight, injuring a tendon baserunning. It's the curse of the Bambino in reverse.

He's really got to get out of Cincinnati. The karma there is so awful that he may never have a career again if he stays. Can't someone convey this to Griffey Jr.? Get. Out. Of. Cincinnati. As. Soon. As. Possible!

I'm not sure he has a career any more no matter where he goes. It's amazing how much his body has broken down in the last few seasons.

Come now, the idea of "geographic karma" is silly stuff. Given that his last two injuries have been shoulder and ankle, it seems to be bad luck more than anything. He hit 5 homers last week!
While he was somewhat overrated a few years ago, I'd bet Griffey has a future as a productive player. And he's a Hall of Famer if he had to retire today.

Man what a tough break. He's the Grant Hill of baseball. Maybe he needs to go to the AL and DH?

I saw in Jim Caple's column on ESPN how Griffey got hurt: he was standing at home plate admiring the long ball that he hit ... which turned out to be short of a home run. Griffey hurt the tendon in his right ankle trying to leg out a double when it became clear he wasn't going to get to trot around all bases.
If this is an indication ... on several levels ... that it's all over for Griffey, I don't know what sort of sign is needed to show that it's over.

That summary makes me have alot less sympathy for Junior.

Junior was never one to "run out" his hits. That's what bugged me the most when he was with the Mariners. It's uncanny how much this guy gets hurt.

I'm with GVF on this.
Has there been any hints of 'roids with Jr.? Isn't a tendency to be more injury prone when one is juicing?
By reputation, at least, Griffey isn't even a serious gym rat, so I doubt steroids are the problem. Maybe it's the opposite, and he hasn't worked hard enough on conditioning as his body aged.

Griffey is notorious for not putting in time at the weights and other workouts. He'll often saunter in after the team workouts are finished.
That has been the angle often pointed out by sports writers whenever he gets injured.
It's also a great deal of resentment and a big sore spot for his teammates who see him as not working as hard as they do. they see him getting a preferential superstar treatment.

Hmmm...maybe he had so much natural talent that he felt he didn't need to. At one point I thought he had a really good shot at catching Aaron, but that's not going to happen now.
