Hi: Just posted
another terrific piece by Todd Huestess about the atmosphere at various college stadiums. This time it's Miami and as a bonus we have a great shot of the Miami cheerleaders' Christmas card.

How does one get on their Christmas card list?

Todd, great story. The Orange Bowl and its neighborhood are unique in college football, so very different from the Grove at OleMiss where I went to undergrad. After 13 years with the University of Miami, I have grown to appreciate the OB so much. You are right about the stadium there is no other like her, built in the 20's it stands alone, but undergo a major facelift next year. You go there for football, where any seat is a good seat. I have never sat in the stands, but on the field after a big play you can actually feel the ground shake. Thanks for the article and showing my cheerleaders. They love outsports especially after the Fiesta Bowl party last year.

and there was something wrong with the formatting of the article, at least when I pulled it up

This is a very nice article. Thanks to my best buddy, Miamidr , I have had the opportunity to spend time some quality time with the cheerleading squad. Not only are they candy to the eyes,(both guys and girls); they are superb athletes. As a sponsor to the squad my partner and I were lucky enough to have them for practice in our front yard. we followed practice by a pizza and desert party. Needless to say, we are now very popular with all our neighbors. Cheers to Danny and Nicole, for an incredible well rounded team, and "MUCHAS GRACIAS" to Todd Heustess for a great article. Like we say down here in Miami...MI casa es su casa.

Yes, Dear Doc, but at least we have that beautiful blue with which to balance the arnge.
Besides, I have the right to cringe at the green 'n' arnge that were my high school colors (Panama City Mosley). Gawd, nobody-but-nobody looked good in that, and that was if you could find it. eek!

I was wondering if someone was going to remind GJ of the orange in the Gator ensemble. However, as a redhead (orange) with blue eyes, I think I have to side with her for a change. It's a wonderful combination, in my completely unbiased opinion.

frankly, i don't care what colors they're not wearing. as a matter of fact, the more colors they're not wearing, the better.
as it stands, the squad looks very good in what they're not wearing!

I am definitely NOT a Miami fan and NOTHING could change my mind - but I might at least suspend my animosity for a short time for the guy at the center of the top step.
And CrocJamie, orange and green is INFINITELY better than orange and blue, and even o/g is a long way from the wonderful jewelled tones of garnet and gold. At least we have colors that you can actually wear without risking an appearance on "What Not to Wear".
Being a band geek (and I'm sure Crocette will back me up on this), I never really held any fondness for cheerleaders, until I graduated and became enough of a fan to bring myself to actually LOOK at the cheerleaders. It helps that the cheerleaders of today are much better eye candy then I remember from years past. UCF had a guy two years ago that was so incredible that I often missed big plays on the field while he doing amazing strength lifts.
My best Orange Bowl memory isn't even football-related, but it does reinforce the reputation of the neighborhood: During the 1983 Drum Corps International championships week, one enterprising neighborhood gang decided that they would give one of the visiting corps a special welcome to Miami and use their instruments to balance the gang's budget. Only problem was that the corps they decided to jump as it made it's way from the warm up area a few blocks away to the stadium was the Boston Crusaders. Their nickname is "BAC" which means Bad Ass Crusaders. These were street kids themselves and as you might guess they won the battle. This did explain a bit why when I was at FSU the Marching Chiefs got out of the buses literally at the gate entrance with no more than a sidewalk to traverse.
While the neighborhood is definitely scary, we found plenty of Miami band members willing to drive up to Ft Lauderdale where we stayed to party the night away.

Now come on, Razor. When is the last time your Piggies won or even played on New Year's Day. (Don't lie cuz I grew up in Arkansas--wasn't it the '76 Orange Bowl vs. Oklahoma?) If I were a betting man--and I am--I wouldn't put money on the Hogs tasting Sugar, Oranges, or even Tostitos anytime in the next decade. Be honest, the Hogs live for Bowls like the Continental Tire and the Weedeater.
Come on over to the Dark Side--it's much more fun cheering for a winner.

bandies! Great story!
But as for cheerleaders, I generally got along with 'em. In high school we had to work together (I was drum major), and in college, two of my sorority sisters and a couple of gay-boy J-school classmates were on the squad. You're right -- much better lookin in college than in high school (probably cos they weren't wearing arnge 'n' green

), but boy did they work their tushies off. Little-known fact: mascot Albert (as seen on ESPN, etc.) is the first runner-up male cheerleader.

Hey guys and gals, I was only quoting the bowl projections on the CBS Sportsline site:
http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/...l/story/6807918 They see the Gators back in the Outback Bowl against the Boilermakers - what was that date again - oh yeah, 1/1/04
I don't see any way that the porous Miami line will protect either Schlock or Cruddy well enough to beat Pitt - although they should be able to beat Rutgers tomorrow.

Hey LGATOR ... Hi, and how are you... Got anything nice to say lately?
When did this POST became a duel against the miami fans or team. Stay with the post here... Cheerleaders... Beach... bathing suits... cute... Come on people... get with the post or just start a new one. One that will be a direct attack to whoever you want. I am sure you won't have as many replies as Todd has for such a nice article...

I must say I was flattered when I saw all the responses on the discussion board and e-mails in my inbox. Of course, now I realize that every column I write should be accompanied by photos of hot cheerleaders. If anyone knows the guy in the yellow shorts (and I agree he probably does deserve is own discussion thread) tell him thank you for me. I feel like I owe him some credit (or dinner) for all this. And as a writer I feel that there is a major story to be written on the UM cheerleaders, and I would like to volunteer my services. I'm glad everyone enjoyed the column too.
Does anyone have any photos of hot Northwestern or Michigan cheerleaders? I'm working on my Northwestern column now.

Todd, come to practice anytime and feel free to write an article on the cheerleaders. The guy in the yellow shorts, is a junior business major with at 3.80 gpa. Straight and many of the UM Coeds can vouch for that...state wrestling champion in high school...Very open minded and appreciates comments about his body from either male or females. He spends a lot of time in the gym.I told him at the basketball game today that he was the new gay heart throb...His response, with a smile, was, "did you tell them I wear a size 14 shoe?"

I should have been specific--the big four bowl games (Fiesta, Sugar, Orange, Rose). The Cotton Bowl hasn't been a top-tier bowl game in years. Nevertheless, I think you made my point for me by referencing the Cotton Bowl . . .
