Christmas 2002 arrived so early that I have no idea what I'll do this year. Alabama gets the next best thing to the death penalty.
1. No bowls for TWO years
2. Loss of 21 scholarships for the THREE years after that.
This is the second time in three years Alabama has been before the NCAA infractions committee. Apparently the committee is fed up. And it doesn't help that Bama has fought them the whole way.
I eagerly await (a la Mr. Burns seething "exxxxcellant") the 13-20 record Bama will accrue over the next three years.
Let the agony begin!

From all accounts I've read, the committee was quite willing to give 'Bama the death penalty. too much money at stake for that I suppose. Kentucky also got hit pretty hard this week too, didn't they. Maybe somebody from Auburn is planting all this evidence! Start with Kentucky so as to not look too suspicious. Once you see you've gotten away with it, move on to arch rival 'Bama. Florida better look out next!
Could this plot have been masterminded from as far away as Lost Angeles, Californication?

Actually, the only enemy in common 'tween Ala-slammer and KY would be Tennessee. AU fans couldn't give a rat's arse about KY.
But I am overcome with joy regarding Bama's fate. It sounds like any small infraction over the next 5 years will put them in the electric chair.

I know Kentucky doesn't matter. I was being sarcastic.
I do love to see cheaters get caught though. Auburn will certainly reap the recruiting benefits from 'Bama's punishment.

It's just like the old days. Bama gets caught cheating and Kentucky goes on probation!
They should have gotten the death penalty. FINALLY, the evil empire got what it deserved, well almost.

George VF;
actually, AU has already reaped the rewards this recruiting season. Coach Tuberville had been giddy for the last few weeks, claiming that this was his best recruiting class thus far at AU. It helped beating both UF and UGA, but the Bama deathwatch allowed him to clean up in the home state.
Bama had self-imposed scholarships on itself in an attempt to placate the NCAA. And everyone knew they were going to be penalized in some way. I'm not sure this was what anyone expected, however.
I have a feeling you will see some of Bama's verbal committments change their minds.

Finally, the teflon wears off Alabama. They should of gotten the death penalty. How many times has that athletic dept gotten into trouble and it just slid off. They are appealing so I am sure the bastards at the NCAA will slack off a bit. Go to hell Alabama.

Bama reminds me of another slime ball school: Texas a&m. In truth I doubt there are many SEC schools that could escape the NCAA's wrath if they wanted to get you. Hell you have Jackie Sherrill coaching at MSU.
