So I was at the 17-inning Orioles/Phillies game in Baltimore on Friday night. On the out-of-town scoreboard, it said that J.D. Drew of the Cardinals had left the game with a minor injury. My friend & I were sitting among about 50 Phillies fans, & they all started cheering when they saw that Drew was injured. I mean, really, people, do try to get over it. It was years ago that he refused to play for the Phillies.
Then again, my friend told me that the Flyers fans still haven't gotten over Eric Lindros.

Seriously, why are Philly fans so bitter? I thought Red Sox fans were bad, but you're pretty close. But the Phils are playing well! You're getting a new stadium next year!! Lighten up and have some fun, fun, FUN!!!

Philadelphia sports fan's wettest wet dream:
Eric Lindros - chaffeuring Kobe Bryant to his arraignment - in a fiery fatal car crash into the St. Louis Cardinals team bus, killing Scott Rolen and J.D. Drew. And - and - right there on the streetcorner as this happens - the resulting fireball incinerates Rich Kotite.

Rich Kotite? come on CITT, i was following right along until that time... Jimmy Johnson? Mr. Irvin? Warren Sapp? Mr. Shooooooockey. Those were all better choices to be standing on the side.

Everyone aspires to be as good a baseball town as St. Louis, but nobody ever gets there. Ask any announcer in baseball -- they all love the STL crowds and their knowledge of the game.
And, yes, it is pretty poor to be cheering Drew's injury. We expect nothing more, however.

In a word, lemmings,
THE SKY IS BLUE! whooo hoooo, bang your thundersticks!... the scoreboard just told us... YAWN...ZZZZZZZ...
Are there really anymore fans who are stuck on themselves than Card fans? oh yeah, packer fans...

I will support no wet dream that does not contain the death of at least one cowboy...
Kotite sucked and all but i mean, ray rhodes did a good job of trying to upstage him and surpass his coaching abilities....

We're not all that mean-spirited. Death is ever so slightly extreme. But if you insist, can we substitute Jose Mesa for Scott Rolen and J.D. Drew?
And Eric Lindros? You're killing off all the hunks!
wink But if you want Bob (formerly Bobby) Clarke to lose his voice, maybe make Dallas Green wash his mouth out with soap (his comments on the radio this morning about Larry Bowa still being a relatively new, inexperienced manager). And while we're wishing, how about if Comcast decides to put something ahead of profits, and allow the Phillies, Sixers and Flyers games, only available on Comcast Sportsnet, be beamed via satellite tv services.

St. Louis fans didn't "get there" very much between 1975 and 1982. In those years the average per-game attendance at Busch was smaller than it was at the Vet-in some years, by huge margins. It also happened in 1972, 1984, and in 1993, 1994 and 1995. (You can look up the numbers at baseball-almanac.com.) So I guess people in St. Louis can front-run with the best of them.
