hmmm ... Sooners at 5? Wonder if the poll was conducted prior to Wednesday's dismissal of Bomar -- even though it is mentioned in the text.
edited to add: I'm mystified as to why Tennessee appears in the Top 25 -- what has changed from last year's 5-6 team? You'll remember -- the team that lost to Vanderbilt at home! QB Erik Ainge returns -- but wasn't sharp. I read most of their D-Line is gone.

Auburn after losing to Wisconsin in their non-bcs bowl game is ranked too high as well.
This poll was constructed before the news of OU's QB being dismissed from the team was revealed.
Also, I don't necessarily subscribe to the belief that USC and Texas are top 5 teams just yet. By the end of the season? Good chance. Now? No.

It's nice to see the Huskers back in a pre-season poll. We'll see if they deserve the #22 ranking after a trip to LA to play USC and a home game against Texas in October.

The winner of the USC-Nebraska Clash will make some noise this season for two different reasons.
If Nebraska wins, Callahan has now gotten the Huskers back competing for BCS bowls in a three short years after trails and tribulations of running the West Coast offense the last two years. The win over Michigan in the ALamo Bowl suggest Nebraska is becoming that type of program again.
If USC wins, they Trojans might take ownership of the phrase of "reloading". I can't think of many teams that can lose their top skilled players and still remain an elite team of college football in the early part of the season.
Is it Sept. yet?

I am sure the ranking was given before the Bomar dismissal but oh well. BOOMER SOONER!!

Here's the AP & USA Today polls, Week 3 My Trojans did better than I expected in these polls. I just assumed nobody was going to move up or down of the original top 6 teams. God, to think that it is possible that SC & Texas can meet again for the title game.

I thought the exact same thing, but there is a lot of football left to play...

I think there should be a lot of movement in the polls early on -- the pre-season poll is nothing but a guess!

I concur. It's just that in the past it seemed that as long as a team didn't lose then usually they weren't really moved around, up or down from the pre-season poll (unless of course a team loses & others get bumped up), especially the top 10. There seemed to be some shuffling this time around regardless if a team won.

Buffalo wins a game and is recognizes by not getting a single vote from the electorate?!?!?!!?
These polls are highly flawed!
No respect!!!
