Steve Spurrier is getting off on the right foot.

Blake Mitchell with nearly 200 yds passing ... in the 1st quarter, sure it's against UCF, but Mitchell has been nearly perfect.

And there are some lame Ducks in Houston, as the Cougars have a 21-17 lead late in the first half.

Game updates:

Central Florida hung tough, but a 7 minute drive to start the second half came up with nothing to show for it. Carolina Cocked and Fired another score and leads 24-3 at the end of the 3rd.

Oregon has gotten their act together in the 3rd with 21 points to take a 38-21 lead.

Game of the night though, Wake Vandy a seesaw game which has the Commodores clinging to a 24-20 lead late.

Welcome back, Ol' Ball Coach. Somebody better get Coach Superior a new set of undies. If UCF gives you a serious scare at home, watch out for the real teams. tongue.gif

P.S. When the SC quarterback got sacked on the one early in the 4th quarter, did he puke all over the field? I swear that's what I saw. eek!

UCF will not go 0-11 this year.

But maybe Buffalo will...they've just concluded their season opener with a 38-0 loss to Connecticut.

Let the road to (im)perfection begin rolleyes.gif !

Did those Cocks get nervous at the end of the game? I know I got excited. Although we didn't win, it wasn't a game we were expected to have a chance in and we nearly pulled it off. Six trips inside the 35 in the 2nd half and only scoring twice doesn't help. But they played real well on both sides of the ball in the second half overall, so I'm optimistic about the rest of the season.

This is what people were expecting outta UCF LAST season.

Lawrence MOroney has been running over Tulsa, 155 yards in the first quarter. Gophers up 17-0 ... only 37 days left til they blow it against Michigan.
Aubie In Bham
BikeJocks, y'all looked pretty good last night. I think you are going to have a pretty good year. I'm not sure if we know a whole lot more about USC or not. Their QB and running backs looked pretty good though.
Herr Tiggee
Carolina....has.....no....running.....game.

No one survives in the SEC on passing alone. Gamecock fans need to start worrying, now. An 0-11 team had no problem stopping USC's run...so you can figure out the rest on your own.

LOL -- yep -- the Goofs wil start the season strong, then, just like their co-tenants vikes in the DumpyDome, will crash at the end.

Maroney ended up with 203 yards last night -- well on his way to a 1000 yd year. ... please please please beat Michigan! crash later -- say on October 15!

Wisconsin's sportin some retro-helmets, and Omar Jacobs is makin the Badges look like their teams of the '80's, Falcons up 14-0.

Ron Zook and the Illini have dodged a bullet thus far, allowing Rutgers to get in scoring range 3 times. But the key word in that last sentence is Rutgers, the Illini only trail 3-0 late in the first, and are driving.
Purdue Fan
Well, Wisconsin put their rally caps on, now up 21-20. Should be a great finish.

And Iowa should be ashamed of themselves, running it up on a pathetic Ball State team that also has 13 suspended players.
Boltergeist
Wisconsin-Bowling Green all tied up at 35 at the half.

and at the half

TCU 10, OU 0.
TheOtherFSU
Oklahoma looks horrendous in the first half. Being shut out at home so far against a very mediocre TCU team coming off a losing season a year ago is awful. Probably the worst first half at home for OU in many years.
Boltergeist
The Illini have fought back from 27-7 down to tie Rutgers nearing OT. Illini are a couple first downs away from a GW FG.

TCU STILL leads OU with 6 minutes left in the game, but Oklahoma now has the ball on a deflected INT.

FINALS:

Illinois 33, Rutgers 30 (OT) - Big comeback to start the Zook era, or for you glass half-emptiers, it was just Rutgers being Rutgers.

TCU 17, Oklahoma 10 - Well at least we're spared of the OU worthiness in the BCS title game talk for this year. I'm sure Mack Brown is trying to convert all his players to Christianity right now to break the spell.

And now it is a final...Oklahoma is out of the NC race already...most likely.

Darn, we won't get to see them get blown out of a national championship game. But they can still be useful by beating Texas again.
TheOtherFSU
I don't know if Oklahoma is out of the national title hunt already.

In 2001, Colorado was ranked 23rd in the country to open the season and lost in its season opener -- in Boulder -- to a then-unranked Fresno State team. That Colorado team fell completely off the radar and everyone called the loss a big upset. Fresno State went on to a great season, had the NFL's #1 draft pick (David Carr), and Colorado went on to win not only the Big XII North championship but the Big XII title and finish 3rd in the BCS standings.

It's not out of the realm of possibility for OU to rebound and have a great season. However, I don't think this TCU team is very good, which makes it seem like OU may be in for one of its worst seasons ever. If the Sooners play like they did today, they are in big trouble.
Purdue Fan
Correct, it is way too early to say they are 100% out, which is why I said "most likely". However, in an scenario of selecting among one-loss teams, and keeping in mind it is a popularity contest, I just cannot see them being 1 or 2 in the BCS, they will lose votes just based on their previous years' performances in the NC game...which, of course shouldn't matter, but it will.

Ahhh, I love college football and the endless debates. Seriously! biggrin.gif
TheOtherFSU
After looking at TCU's schedule, the Horned Frogs have a very real chance of going unbeaten.

Fresh off their 5-6 season last year in which their defense was one of the worst in Division I-A football, TCU does not face a ranked team the rest of this season. The rest of TCU's non-conference schedule: SMU and Army, two of the very worst teams in the country. The best team in the Mountain West (Utah) has to come to Fort Worth so that's a home game for the Horned Frogs.

It's unlikely TCU could earn a BCS bowl bid with that type of schedule but you never know.

Like purdue has ever been worthy of a BCS title game.

I thought it was a good start for college football, and I am very excited for FSU-Miami tonight. Very pleased to see the Big Ten go 10-anything that puts even more pressure on Mack Brown to break the streak this season.
0. I still can't believe TCU pulled it off; if
USC didn't miss a beat. They may have trouble at Autzen but they look as solid as ever.

Hope to get more familiar with things around here in the coming weeks!

37 days later, it's Meee-chokin who biffs the Little Brown Jug away, allowing Gary Russell to break a long run late as Minnesota wins 23-20
