The first game of the contest is Thursday evening -- be sure to get that pick into me by kickoff. The rest are on Saturday.
The rules:
1. Pick the winner in each game.
2. Predict how many points the team you pick to win the designated Game of the Week will win by. This will be used for tiebreak purposes. This week it is Texas vs. Oklahoma.
3. The first pick is needed by the kickoff of the first game -- Thursday evening.
4. Picks must be submitted either via the Private Message function or E-mail. My email address is dcbucky2000@hotmail.com -- please do not post your picks here. Include your Outsports nickname with your picks.
It was tough to pick a game of the week. The Red River Rivalry won out, since Texas fans have been salivating since their last lost to the Sooners.
But OSU and PSU will be great. imho a terrific game will be unc at Louisville. Out on the Left Coast, there's Cal at ucla. And I'm half tempted to drive over to Annapolis with a pair of high-powered binocs to watch Air Force take on Navy.
Thursday, October 6
ACC
1. N.C. State at Georgia Tech
(Last season: GaTech 24 - NCState 14)
Tech had a bye week -- and needed it after getting spanked by VaTech.
Saturday, October 8
2. Virginia at Boston College
(Last met in the 1993 Blockbuster Bowl: BC 31- uva 13)
These teams haven't met in the regular season since 1963.
MOUNTAIN WEST
3. Utah at Colorado State
(Last season: Utes 63 - Rams 31)
4. TCU at Wyoming
(Last met in 1998: Wyoming 34 - TCU 27)
TCU's first year in the conference and they're making some noise.
NON-CONFERENCE
5. North Carolina at Louisville
(Louisville 34 - unc 0)
UNC finishes its tough non-conf. schedule (Wisconsin, Utah) hoping to further dent the Cards' record.
6. Air Force at Navy
(Last season: Navy 24 - AFA 21)
So ... who would you rather see on top? Air Force or Navy
BIG TEN
7. Wisconsin at Northwestern
(Last season: Bucky 24 - Mildcats 12)
Expect a high scoring affair -- both teams' secondaries are sieves. The Badger's running game may not find its track, with their top blocking FB and TE injured.
8. Minnesota at Michigan
(Last season: Meatchicken 27 - Minnehaha 24)
They battle for the Little Brown Jug, which has been gathering dust in the Wolverines' trophy case since 1986 (the last time the Goofs won)
9. Iowa at Purdue
(Last year: Hawkeyes 23 - Boilers 21)
Both teams already have a loss in the league -- another may remove them from contention.
10. An Ohio State University at The Pennsylvania State University
(Last year: USC 21 - PSU 10)
These teams have met 20 times -- each taking 10. The way things are going this may be better and more meaningful than that 11/19 game in Ann Arbor.
BIG EAST
11. West Virginia at Rutgers
(Last season: WVU 35 - Rutgers 30)
Rutgers defeated a truly awful Pitt team last week -- and now find themselves tied with WVU for first in the Big East. Rutgers hasn't won this game since 1994.
PAC TEN
12. California at UCLA
(Last season: Cal 45 - ucla 28)
Win this game and the Bruins may have some fairly easy sledding until they face AZ State and USC in the final two games.
13. Stanford at Washington State
(Last season: Stanford 23 - Wazzou 17)
One of these teams will crawl out of the cellar.
SEC
14. LSU at Vanderbilt
(Last season: LSU 24 - vandy 7)
Maybe the first time Vanderbilt has been in this contest -- but the luster is off this game -- how could Vandy lose to MTSU? But they're still undefeated in the SEC. Showdown in Nashville.
15. Georgia at Tennessee
(Tennessee 19 - uga 14)
Georgia finally gets a big test this season.
BIG XII
16. Texas Tech at Nebraska
(tt 70 - huskers 10)
So are the Cornhuskers really back on track? They'll certainly be out for revenge after last year's whipping.
17. Kansas at Kansas State
(ku 31 - ksu 28)
The Jawhawks hope to make it two-in-a-row over cross-state rivals for the first time since 1990.
18. Texas A&M at Colorado
(A&M 29 - Colorado 26)
The Aggies struggled against Baylor last week, while the Buffaloes kicked the Cowboys in the gut.
19. Oklahoma at Texas -- GAME OF THE WEEK
'nuf said.
CUT-AND-PASTE
1. N.C. State at Georgia Tech
2. Virginia at Boston College
3. Utah at Colorado State
4. TCU at Wyoming
5. North Carolina at Louisville
6. Air Force at Navy
7. Wisconsin at Northwestern
8. Minnesota at Michigan
9. Iowa at Purdue
10. An Ohio State University at The Pennsylvania State University
11. West Virginia at Rutgers
12. California at UCLA
13. Stanford at Washington State
14. LSU at Vanderbilt
15. Georgia at Tennessee
16. Texas Tech at Nebraska
17. Kansas at Kansas State
18. Texas A&M at Colorado
19. Oklahoma at Texas -- Predict by how many points the victor will win.
(edited to correct my error placing Vandy in the SEC West.)
