With DC perhaps on the verge of getting the Expos (a decision is to be made post All Star break), the Washington Post is printing a 3-part highly critical (and long) exposé on how Comm. Selig and the owners conduct business.

Sunday, Part 1
Selig Plays Hardball on Stadium Deals (focuses on the deals and shenanigans behind Miller Park in M'waukee)

Monday, Part 2
Expos for Sale: Team Becomes Pawn of Selig

Tuesday's conclusion will look at the relationship between Selig and Peter Angelos.

The stories are way too long to be posted. Let's try to find a way around this.

I know Yahoo News sometimes has articles from various papers on their site. Perhaps they've posted this series?

OK -- it appears MSNBC has the articles online -- and no reg. req. as far as I can tell.

Blah. The whole thing is just so slimy. It brings back the bitter taste of when the Red Sox were sold a few years ago. Not that I have anything against the current owners, but they didn't have the highest bid. The more I learn about MLB, the less I am inclined to care about baseball.

John Moores, Chairman of the S.D. Padres, responded to the Post's series with this op-ed, listing the following successes under Commissioner Selig's leadership:

interleague play
wild-card playoff system
enhanced revenue-sharing among teams
a new rule limiting the amount of debt a team can carry.
an unbalanced schedule that enhances division rivalries
streamlining MLB's central office
eliminating the duplication of effort and expense of separate league offices
standardizing the strike zone
speeding up games
bringing baseball into the Internet age
paving the way for new ballparks in 15 cities since 1992

Didn't he just pull that list off of George Will's column a few months ago?
