Never been a Terps fan, but seeing them crush UT like an empty Pabs Blue Ribbon can left me giddy.
Thank you, Maryland, for ruining New Years for all those hillbillies!

Hmmmm....guess I will have to rethink AU as my 2nd favorite SEC team after that uncalled for and classless comment (you do realize most folks consider AU a "cow college" or the "barners", right?). You really should become more of a Terp fan since you have as much class as most of the Terp fans we encountered in Atlanta did.
On second thought, why should I stoop to your level. Congrats to AU for beating PS. I am glad someone in the SEC was able to win. I am really glad our embarrassing loss provided you so much giddy happiness.
All VOL...All the time!!

Now now, can't we all share in an SEC friendship come bowl season? My Bulldogs had a miserable season, but come bowl game time I'm willing to root for all the SEC teams. It is good for the conference! I enjoyed New Years Day, flipping between Texas-LSU playing down the street here in the Big D, and the Citrus Bowl (I refuse to call it by the corporate name) game between Michigan and Florida. Then the bowl in Raymond James Stadium featuring Auburn and Penn State, and the Georgia Bulldogs beating FSU in the Sugar.
I wish Tennessee had played better, as the SEC has a rich tradition in the Peach Bowl. Ole Miss winning the Independence was a bit of a surprise to me, and Auburn won but not spectacularly against the Nittany Lions. The Bulldogs played extremely well, and had a great season. With their returning starters next year, they look like the preseason SEC champs.
We finished 3-4 as a conference, not one of the best bowl seasons.

Boy, all the bowl-watching got your facts all mixed up. Florida-Michigan in Raymond James Stadium was in the Bowl formerly known as the Hall of Fame. Penn State-Auburn was in the Bowl formerly known as the Citrus.

Now that Spurrier has left the SEC, I have no problem cheering for all of the SEC teams, except Bama of course; that's a given.
Florida has some issues and I think Spurrier knew it when he decided to bolt to the NFL. I wouldn't be suprised is Rexy was drafted by him. I think Fulmer spent too much time and effort trying to bring Bama down and forgot to focus on his team. I know Tennessee had a lot of injuries this year. Somehow, though, I thought Fulmer would have been able to put together at least a decent game plan. Clausen looked absolutely terrible and I can't believe they left him in.
Congrats to the Rebs, they looked good in their win over Nebraska. The Dogs looked great; congrats to my favorite SEC rival. Auburn didn't win spectacularly, but we won. I think it is going to be a sign of things to come for next year.

Oops, my mistake. Of course I know that the Citrus Bowl was played in Orlando, I just got the games mixed up.
Let's just get rid of the corporate names all together, it makes things less confusing.

I was pretty happy to see Rocky Top get smoked as well. (I too normally root for all SEC teams.) However, I was rooting against UT football for two reasons.
1. I'm a Vanderbilt student and therefore required to hate all things orange.
2. But seriously, I wanted them to lose because of one thing and one thing only. CASEY CLAUSEN. He did nothing the entire season, besides miss UT's biggest games with the mystery injury, and then run his mouth after the losses about how UT would have won had he played. And could have won with "one arm", etc. Had he been a good QB it wouldn't have made his comments better and it doesn't guarantee I'd like him, but at least if you have the ability to back up your trash talk, people can't really criticize your comments. However, as far as I can see, Casey's got no room to talk.

Very interesting. Glad to know you VU students are still required to hate all things orange. Wouldn't have it any other way!! Most UT fans were very disappointed in Casey's comments about being able to beat Uga, and hopefully he will keep his mouth shut next year and just play ball!! That would go for a lot of the Vols this year, not just Casey.
As for Casey, he did not have any mystery injuries. He was injured (shoulder and ankle)and played that way the rest of the season after being injured in the Arkansas game. It was in most of the TN papers (including the Tennessean) and on ESPN as well. So, that little argument doesn't fly at all. That being said, an 85% healthy Casey Clausen and the Vols were still able to kick Vandy's sorry asses again 24-0. But that should be nothing new to you VU folks, since we've been doing it every year now since 1982.
Most UT fans pull for our SEC bretheren to win in bowl games and big out of conference games. I know this year I did (even though after seeing the post that started this thread, I almost wish I hadn't pulled for AU, but why let one person's ignorant comments upset me). Just be sure that I will pull for VU in their next bowl game....provided they ever get 6 wins in a season to qualify for one again (it's been since 1982 for a VU bowl game as well). Too bad the rest of us are funding your athletic department with our bowl earnings while you guys add NOTHING to the pot!! Actually, I guess you do your part on second thought, we all get that sure win vs. VU on the way to the 6 needed to go to a bowl. Just think, where would Ole Miss have been this year without that win over your dores....5-7.
Oh yeah, congrats to your women's hoops team being 0-2 in C-USA. Nice job!!
Go Vols!!

Thanks so much for your bitter reply. Regarding the mystery injury I talked about was the fact that when it was first reported on ESPN and the Tennessee papers, I believe that Fulmer and Clausen denied that he had one. And as far as your attack on Vanderbilt sports, it's nothing new to me. Whether we win or lose by 80, I'm still a Vanderbilt fan. Thanks.
Oh and just in case you ask for an example of what I'm talking abou, here's a story from a Knoxville writer no less, about how Fulmer said, "Casey's not injured, he's just sore." I'm sorry but every QB in America is sore so I don't constitute that as admission of an injury. Here's the link if you'd like.

LMAO....bitter reply? Just the truth baby!! I am glad you are a VU fan through and through...God knows they need some.
No actually, my response was based on your non-factual attack on my QB and your admitted hate of all things orange. Just defending my school and team and a few little barbs back at yours (and it was really easy). Thanks for linking an Athens GA (please note...Athens is NOT Knoxville since you noted it was by a Knoxville writer, methinks not) online story before the Uga game. Like I said previously, the injury was sustained in the ARK game the week before we played Uga. The Vols played their hand close to the vest about the injury so Uga would not know who was actually going to play QB against them. You can believe what you want, but Casey had a shoulder separation and did not pay again until the bama game on Oct 26....and even then he probably should not have been playing. He also hurt his ankle and was not able to move very well the rest of the year in that game.
Do your homework next time, or better yet, don't comment on things you know nothing about. I have been going to UT games a lot longer than you have been alive. Don't get me started by trashing my Vols with non-factual comments. You will get replies from me (bitter?...lol) everytime. I will be the first to admit we sucked at the Peach Bowl ( I saw it with my own two eyes from section 130, row 14) along with 4 other times this year. And I understand your hatred of all things orange...but don't let that cloud the facts. I can handle that you hate UT and are glad we lost. No big deal!! Lots of folks just like you out there. That isn't going to stop me from being a die-hard Vol on the darkest day!! You know the old saying, a bad day at UT is better than a good day at VU!!
Go Vols....Go Lady Vols!!

NOW NOW NOW All you SEC FANS!!!! LETS NOT FIGHT!!!! LOL I have to admit, that I was really saddened by the SEC play in the Bowl games this year. I think that the SEC teams were so busy beating everyone in our conference up that we had nothing left at the end of the year. I do want to say this though -- Auburn looked REALLY good. They had most of their injured players back and they really played PSU well. ESPECIALLY the Auburn defense. I gave them a good word in my article that I wrote for Outsports. I do have to say that after watching Arkansas continue its crash and burn against Minnesota, that Auburn has to be the preseason pic to win the SEC west. And Georgia will be the pick in the East for next year. Tennessee, they need to get everyone healthy, and Claussen needs to become a team player again. He has continually ripped fellow teammates in the press this year, and that is not good leadership. I think Fulmer needs to get ahold of his team and refocus them. They have the talent to win the East, but can they get focused. We will have to wait and see.
Some other news for you SEC fans -- SEC is re-negotiating their Bowl Contracts. SEC Commish did not like that fact that Arkansas was snubbed by the New Years Day bowls, so he is going to change the contracts so that either the Capital One Bowl, or the Cotton Bowl has to take the loser of the SEC Championship game. He wants to leave room for the Bowls to pick so that it is a Geographically friendly game. But he said it is not fair for a team to go into a conference championship game assured of a New Years Day bowl, and then get shunned cause they lose an extra game. So keep your eyes peeled to that and see what happens. Rumors are that the Big 12 is also going to do the same after Colorado got snubbed by the Cotton Bowl this year. They want to supposedly set it up so that the loser of the Big 12 Championship game will automatically go to the Cotton Bowl. Just some food for thought!!!

I was pulling for the Vols. I have nothing against Tennessee. They hate Bama and they hate Georgia. What's not to love about that? :-)
I look forward to seeing y'all in Auburn in the fall. I hated that the divisions ended our long-time tradition of playing each other early in the season.

Given Mr. UT's vicious attacks on Mr. VU, I stand by my original post.
But maybe it would make you feel better if I replaced the term "hillbillies" with "ridge runners"?
Though I'm no fan of UGA, UF, Bama or UT, I can say that I have on occasion met people with nominal "class" from UGA, UF and Bama. The jury's still out on UT. But maybe I'll run into one of them someday.

AU Tiger in LA....what exactly was vicious about my response? It was all facts, unlike the crap VU posted. Please fill me in. Don't talk to me about class....you started this thread with your insults. I responded with more class than you have exhibited.
As for VU, we have chatted in the past. I guess it is OK to say you HATE UT and that is classy, but if you respond with FACTS about the situation, you have no class. Whatever!! Guess you've been in LA too long where smack talk is accepted. When you fight back and defend your school, you have no class. Guess we all have our own definitions of class.

Gotcha....don't call someone out for posting bogus stuff. Understood. I am pretty new here so I haven't seen a lot of posts. I have not read any where people have made claims that were bogus, so I rebutted the false claim. If that's not allowed on outsports, then I missed that rule. (Missed the rule that says it is OK to call fans of other teams names as well).
I'll let it rest now. The last guy was right....it just isn't worth it in the grand scheme of life. You win big bad Tiger in LA!!.

OK. This has really gotten out of hand.
1. I said I hate UT and things that are orange as a joke. Which I explained to you on the women's basketball thread a couple of weeks ago. Obviously you forgot. Since you know so much about Vandy, you'd know that most people here don't care about sports and the only reason the few people who don't like UT don't because Vandy gets no support in the Nashville community. I personally only dislike UT football.
2. Why would I come on a message board and post information I knew for a fact to be false. Yeah, smart move by me.
3. I never said Casey Clausen wasn't injured. I believed him to be. I was wondering why they didn't just say so since every publication in the damn world had already reported it.
4. I'm not sure if you were talking about me, but when did I call you names?
5. Lastly, I didn't come to Vanderbilt for the sports (obviously). If I chose a school so I could have winning sports teams, I wouldn't have come here. I came for an education and I believe I getting a good one, as are the not-so-winning athletes that pass through here, which more that a lot of other COLLEGE athletes can say.
I'm sorry to have upset you. You may go on with your life now. I just thought I'd explain my ideas.

AJ...I am sorry. I know we had chatted in the past. I overreacted. Been a long week to be a Vol fan. You did not call anyone a name. The person who started this thread did that.
The stuff about Casey wasn't true. He was hurt, he did run his mouth off, UT fans were not happy about that, nor were we happy about Kelly Washington running his mouth. To sum it up, we got what we deserved this year.
I was serious when I said I would pull for Vandy in a bowl game. The rest was a little bad. As for the women, I am mad at them for losing to TCU and UofL. I am mad at my women for losing to uconn today as well.
See ya around. (My life is fine....just kinda worried about this little war, etc. Lots of stuff on my mind and my release...the Vols...are letting me down as well). Take care.

For the record, SmokeyVol, I'm an Auburn grad who's never had a bad experience with a Tennessee fan -- and that includes two trips to Knoxville to see my guys lose.

Hey Sportsoutdoors....I knew you were an Aubie. I have always enjoyed your posts and should have responded to one of them sooner. Also, I have always enjoyed my trips to Auburn....best road game in the SEC in my book. I always pull for Aubie unless of course, we are playing you!! Guess that is what got me so riled to begin with is an Aubie calling us hillbillies and laughing at our loss. I am glad to hear your experiences in Big Orange Country have been good...except for the game outcome. Our fans are mainly a good bunch and very loyal, but when you have over 100,000 at a game, odds are you will run into some jerks. I can assure you, we don't have the market cornered on jerks.
I am looking forward to our game on the plains next fall. Hopefully I will be able to take some leave that weekend and head down.
You are right about stepping back from the keyboard. First the Peach Bowl, then my most favorite Vol team, the Lady Vols let those uconners beat us again today in OT. Who would of thought it would be our men's hoops team that kept us from going 0 for the week!! LOL!!
Hope to chat with you again sometime soon.

As a former Razorback who had to sit on the sideline and watch Tennessee had us our lunches in the 90 Cotton Bowl, I have every reason to dislike the Vols. But, I dont. I have to say, that Tennessee is one of the premier football programs in the nation, and I have ALWAYS enjoyed the game day atmosphere at Tennessee. Arkansas has always been able to come to Tennessee and play very well against you there. If I were ranking game day atmosphere besides Arkansas, I would have to rank Tennessee, LSU, and then Auburn in that order. While I HATE LSU (LOL) I do have to admire the atmosphere there. So SmokeyVol, keep your head up buddy. I know your team had a rough year. EVERY program is going to have a year when injuries cripple a team. And that sure happened to y'all this year. The only difference is, most coaches were able to keep their players under control, and didnt let the frustration run out of control. I think all of it was so new to Coach Fulmer that he just didnt know how to respond at first. I look for that to be different next year.
