It's so much fun having Mr. Gravytrain back on board. Although one would expect him to spend a little more time over at P&R duking it out with judges who surf the web all day long.

I cannot cheer against my alma mater. I attended Kansas for a couple of years, but did not develop the love I have for Michigan State. I do pull for KU in football (Not bball), Clemson, Miami (because my husband is an alum, even tho he hates sports), and I watch the Pac 10 with interest, but I would never cheer for anyone over Michigan State.

I went to a DIII school so had no allegance to any major college football program. No regrets there, it allowed me to play basketball at the college level. My law school plays Iaa, so not really a major program there either. But I became a fan of my partner's team, the VT Hokies, partly to keep the peace at home and partly because his passion for the team was so consuming that I just could not help myself. So I have been a Hokie fan through the dark years of the 80s and early 90s, before Beamerball. I feel I can carry on his passion through my love of the sport and of his team.
So for Pat, Go Hokies.

We all have our alma maters to cheer for, win or lose (and, boy do I know something about that over the last 5 years), but what about when we find ourselves cheering for a hated conference rival. I graduated from Penn State, but this year I found myself cheering for an Ohio State University to beat Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Sort of like rooting for the lesser of two evils.
Wow this makes me feel dirty just writing it!

I was in the same boat with the Alamo Bowl. As a good Big 10-er, I should have rooted for Michigan. But as a Michigan State grad, I just couldn't bring myself to root for them. And I've never been able to stand Nebraska, so I just kind of watched this game and, deep down, hoped that they'd both find a way to lose.

4. any NCAA school, other than Duke
5. any university, college or tech school with an athletic program, but not Duke

If you add "Notre Dame and" to "Duke" I would agree with you 100%. My dream is that Duke and ND have to schedule each other in football and basketball on the same day. The Irish win the football game by 60, but the basketball players are forced to watch, so Coach K gets the players to sign an oath with magic markers on the floor, or some other thing that motivates 20-year-old boys, and the Duke basketball team wins by 50.
