Very interesting idea which begins to make a bunch of sense when you start thinking it over. Other than Wednesday night meetings, what has Baylor added to the Big 12 anyway?

For the good of my Horns and an easy football victory every year, I'd say keep Baylor. But for the good of the conference, I say toss Baylor and add Arkansas.

Baylor should be leaving the NCAA for a while, let alone the Big 12. That was a program out of control. They need to take a breather (like SMU several years ago) and come back from scratch in a few years.
faydman
i disagree about baylor being out of control. i think if other bcs schools (including my beloved longhorns) faced the scrutiny that baylor has faced, they wouldn't hold up well.
Cattledog
With the Big 12 being as tough as it is, my Aggies need Baylor in the conference to kick around. It's an automatic "W"! I cannot say that about the other 10 teams. When Texas A&M was in the Southwest Conference, we had the likes of TCU, SMU, Rice, and Baylor. It's not that easy anymore.

Yawn.

Is it August 30 yet? wink
Aubie In Bham
Crocette, I'm with you....I can't wait to unwrap the Trojans on August 30.

David, do you think that the Big 12 will make a play for Arkansas if Baylor is kicked out?

Kicking Baylor out of the Big 12 has been a topic on the Texas boards for a while. In addition to Arkansas, many people support bringing in LSU as the new 12th member. They're darn good at football and baseball. Heck, they're only an hour away from New Orleans! That's reason enough to kick out Baylor!

At the Texas-Baylor basketball game in Austin this past season, someone in the student section had a giant sign that read:

Hey Baylor: www.ConferenceUSA.com

We all busted up at that one...freakin hilarious!

Hmmm, teammates murdering teammates. Coaches handing out money to players like ATMs. Coaches trying to cover up said murder by framing dead player as drug dealer. How much more out of control would you allow a program to get before you'd agree they were out of contol? Baylor basketball needs the death penalty and it needs it now. I'm not saying the other sports and athletes should have to suffer, but if that's what it takes to clean this mess up, so be it. There should be no basketball at Baylor for at least a couple of years.

And all of this from the premier southern baptist university.....arent they the ones who wouldnt let their students go to Disney?

LSU leaving the SEC for the Big 12? Laughable and unthinkable. The only "at risk" SEC member in a theoretical Big 12 defection is Arkansas, where people have long speculated regarding a return to the Hogs' roots. If Baylor gets booted (a big "if"), Arkansas would be a perfect fit. From a geographical persepective, Ark makes sense. Fayetteville and Little Rock are more easily accessible to the great plains and Texas, at least moreso than Florida and other eastern states.
theodoresdaddy
if a SEC team does leave, who takes it's place?

is West Virginia the lead team or does the conference take a second tier southern team
Aubie In Bham
I would think that Louisville would be a perfect fit for the SEC if we were to lose one of the members. However, GIT is THE team that should come back into the SEC. They and UAT need to bury the hatchet over that face-kicking incident and come on back to the SEC. I would be great to catch a buzz every year again.

No offense to David, but I do think that Arkansas would be a better match up geographically and historically for the Big 12. I would hate to lose them, but the Hogs don't seem to have developed a real rivalry with any of the SEC teams.

What the f*** is wrong with me? I've agreed 100% with Aubie on several of his last posts, including those in other forums. Next thing you know, we'll be wearing matching colors on Saturday...WAIT! we almost do already! Ack! biggrin.gif

Love the "buzz" comment!

TEN MORE DAYS...

Louisville fans hate the SEC. They would never agree (or at least go willingly) to Louisville in the SEC.

Besides, Louisville's still talking to the Big East (or the remnants thereof) about realignment.

Welcome to the dark side baby! We are close to the same colors except for that electric blue y'all have (very south florida) versus the tasteful navy blue we have biggrin.gif

Well, Louisville, y'all just go on up there with them Big East boys and have you a guud ole time.

There again, Techsters, COME HOME!

Talked to Gamecock about this last night. Chances of it happening are the same as the chances Adrian "Show Me the Money" McPherson starting for the Gators...

I know y'all would love to have the 'Cocks join your party biggrin.gif -- afraid you'll have to wait in line a while cause I don't see it happening anytime soon....when I was there in the 80s and we were an independent (gasp! eek! ) we would have killed to rejoin the ACC but, as for now, Lou's boys are perfectly content beatin up on dem Dawgs, Gators and Hogs (alright, maybe we haven't exactly had much success against the latter two in recent years but I'm sure that's gonna change in 2003).

no Ga Tech can't go to the SEC. The ACC would start poaching teams again.

NO!
Aubie In Bham
Carolina is a happy addition to the SEC. They aren't going anywhere because we love our Cocks!

Those Yella Jackets know where home is. Besides, with them being in the SEC, they could add on to the stadium and fill it up with the visiting fans. You know...Altanta is only a short 90 minute drive up I-85 from the loveliest Village on the Plains.

I can hear the Techsters now...S-E-C, S-E-C biggrin.gif wink

May wanna re-think that one, Jim. You wanna go tit-for-tat in the Criminole department, you're gonna lose. I mean, who'd-a thunk that Miami apparently now runs a cleaner program than Free Shoes U? Where else in D-1A, hell, even in the NCAA, did a school have its football coach take the stand in a criminal trial of its ex-starting QB and have to answer questions as to whether it was possible that said XQB could have thrown a game (to which the Head Criminole was forced to admit that it was indeed possible that McPherson could have thrown games)?

I keep wanting to use my "Criminole" t-shirt to wax my car, but damned if it doesn't acquire new meaning every year! Nope, you're not gonna win the "who's the bigger Cradle of Crooks" argument. But since you're reaching, here - I'll hand you an insult. UF AD Jeremy "Horseteeth" Foley letting a Bible-thumping coach toss a star softball player of the team because she was gay.

Happy Football Season!

GATORJamie

P.S. (LOL, Aubie. I now work a compressed workweek and don't generally check messages until Mondays.)

Hey y'all:

For all of you who are tossing Arkansas' name around as an SEC defection, you can stop wondering. The Big 12 tried to talk Arkansas into leaving the SEC 2 years ago, and Frank Broyles basically laughed at them. With all the talk going around again, Broyles came out on Friday and said that the Big 12 would have to put together ONE HELL OF A PACKAGE to convince Arkansas to leave the SEC, and Broyles frankly said that he did not believe that the Big 12 could pull such a package off. Broyles said that the only rivalry within the Big 12 that would entice Arkansas was the possibility of playing Texas every year, and we are already doing that. We already play Oklahoma State, Missouri, and Oklahoma in basketball every year. Broyles said that the Big 12 could not begin to compete with the SEC in Bowl payouts, TV packages, and top rivalries that Arkansas has developed with the likes of Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn, not to mention Florida, and Kentucky in basketball.

So, if I did not make it clear, Arkanas IS NOT defecting from the SEC, because Broyles easily considers the conference to be the best in the land, and a conference that has been very good to Arkansas, and the SEC has benefitted from Arkansas being there. The old saying, why break up a happy marriage when both sides get so much from each other.
