Man did I pick a doozy of a game as my first of the season!!! Yanks beat the Twins last night 13-12 in 14 innings (8 of those beerless as they stopped serving at the end of the 6th!!!).
Twins led 9-8 going into the bottom of the 9th and Bernie Williams hit his second solo homer of the night to send it to extra innings. Yanks hit six homers in all. Twins took a three run lead in the top of the 14th only to have Jason Giambi blast a walk off grand slam in the bottom half to end the game.
I am a diehard Twins fan, but it was heard not to root for the Yanks in this one. Just amazing!!!
Our seats were close enough behind third base that we could see the guys pretty well. Robin Ventura is so damned cute! And the Twins third baseman was also a little hottie named Jay Canizaro. And Twins catcher AJ Pierzynski was looking mighty fine as well. Twins were without Mientkiewicz and Koskie, my favorite eye candy. but still had a great time.
And today's Tops has it right. There was hardly anyone left in the stands. After the Twins took the lead in the top of the 14th, most everyone that was still there headed for the gates. When we got down into the subway after Giambi's blast, a lot of people that had left early were still waiting for the train. They were convinced we were pulling their legs. I don't think I would have believed it myself if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes.

What a game, huh George? As much as I love the Yankees, we left in the twelth inning. It was past midnight, it was SO cold, it was pouring rain, and the Yanks kept leaving the winning run on base. I walked into my apartment just as the game ended, and really kicked myself. You'd think I'd have learned my lesson when we left Game Five of the World Series just before the Good Guys batted in the bottom of the ninth.....

I was also at the game and stayed through the rain and cold until the very end. It is a shame either team had to lose because both played so well. Unfortunately for me, i was one of the 3 Twins fans still at the game in the bottom of the 14th. I thought they had it wrapped up and took quite a bit of razzing at the end. By the time everyone started leaving in extra innings, I was able to make it down to the front row right behind home plate. Great view and plenty of eye candy. I also made it onto the jumbotron in between innings... Definitely the most amazing (and longest) game i've ever seen in person.

That sure was an amazing game,
I stayed up and watch all 5 hours and 46 minutes of it and it was well worth it!!
I have to admitt I thought the Yankees were out of it after the Twins scored in the 14th, and I should of known better not to ever count out my TEAM.
Giambi hitting the Grand Slam was just PERFECT, it felt like that was his moment when he earn the Pinstrips! So now in alot of people's minds he's offical a YANKEE.
If your a true fan of Baseball,Even if your not a fan of the Yankees/Twins. You had to enjoy this game.
I hope ESPN will put it as one of there classics.
I give the Twins all the credit in the world they played hard and it was sad that they lost, but someone had to lose and it was them.
Now the Yankees are just 1 game back from the Bo-Sox and RedSox fans better start worrying!!!.
WHAT A GAME, I'll never forget it
