Ducks don't begin until September 11th with a home game against Indiana.

Until then...

Indiana?????

Correction: Your schedule starts Sept. 18 at Oklahoma. Sept. 11 is just a scrimmage practice.
Mariner Duck Guy
Ha! Nope, after the letdown the Ducks had after beating Michigan last year, I want them to focus on one team at a time and not look forward or past any team. Indiana first, then focus on Oklahoma. The offense should be in good shape, but I don't think their pass defense has improved much from last year and this is troubling since they were almost dead last in pass defense last year.

Man! The glare ... that yellow! Well at least you didn't post a pic of those uniforms. Thanks MDB!

I'm sitting in my room at Colorado Springs right now, just got back from the Cal v. Air Force game. biggrin.gif

Go Bears!
Mariner Duck Guy
Finally! Oregon becomes the last Division I team to open their 2004-2005 College Football season. Perhaps it's a case of saving the best for last?

The Bears looked very impressive last weeked. I think they will give the Trojans a good game and I'm not sure if anyone will keep up with their offense. I really like Tedford as a coach.

ASU is a mystery team. I think they are going to be a team that will surprise teams.

I have a feeling that Boise State will upset the Beavers on Friday. Can you imagine the visuals of this game? Blue & Orange for BSU, Orange and Black for the Beaves and they are playing on a Blue field! Football Live in Technicolor!

At least the Huskies have a week off to lick their wounds from a HOME loss to Fresno State.

The Cougs are in Seattle this weekend to play Colorado at Seahawks Stadium (I don't want to call it Q**** Field). It's too bad Jeremy Bloom's not playing.

3 Pac 10 / Big Ten Match-ups this week:

Oregon
Indiana

Arizona St
N'western

UCLA
Illinois

Other Pac-10 games this weekend:

Colo St
USC (1)

Utah (16)
Arizona

BYU
Stanford

GO DUCKS!

Duck Boy! What happened???????
Mariner Duck Guy
Dman it. Why do Ducks always have to duck it up.

It's a good thing this game wasn't televised in the Seattle area because I would have been totally pissed off. I only "watched" a portion of the game on the internet before I had to leave. It seemed like the Ducks were totally out of sync on Saturday. The offense moved the ball up & down the field but just couldn't put it all together. Great. And next up is Oklahoma. In Norman. Lovely.

I'm surprised to hear that, MDB, because the game was part of ESPN's college game plan package -- at least here on the east coast, anyway....I flipped over to it late in the third quarter expecting the Hoosiers to be down by at least 3 TD's (the Ducks were 20 point favorites going in) and was shocked to see Matt Lovecchio (the cute transfer QB from ND) and IU leading 30-10.

The Ducks outgained Indiana 495-198 but Oregon's SEVEN turnovers clearly did them in -- particularly Clemens two AWFUL interceptions in the final minutes after they had rallied for two scores and were attempting to take the lead....the broadcasters (from the "Oregon Sports Network") were clearly rooting for the Ducks and were bummed that IU pulled off the big upset.

BTW, I agree with your earlier comment that Tedford is a highly underrated coach and I believe Cal is the one team that can legitimately challenge the Trojans for the Pac-10 crown....not to mention, they were my preseason sleeper pick for the national championship and I'll make a ton of money on a small bet I placed a couple of weeks ago if the Golden Bears can somehow make it all the way to the Orange Bowl smile.gif ....otherwise, it appears that the Pac-10 is in for a down year with every other team looking like they'll be battling to play in a mid-level bowl, at best.

Don't stop there. How about ugliest uniforms in the nation! No matter. As long as you talk about them!

Duck Boy...as a fellow fan of UO, I was disappointed in another lose this weekend. Though it was a valiant effort against OK. Hopefully the total season won't be a bust. I hope to make it home this fall for a home game if my sister will let me have one of their season tickets. In the meantime, I will cheer for them over here in Paradise.
Mariner Duck Guy
Ducks did hold up for at least 3 quarters. They have to get those penalties and kicking game under control.

ASU looks like they are back on track and not going to concede the title to USC or Cal. They absolutely dismantled Iowa.
illini n milwaukee
Kellen Clemens looked good on Saturday.........well, at least to me... wink

Pac 10 did well against the Big 10 this weekend. And Oregon State did great against LSU earlier.

Considering how bad all the 'experts' said the Pac 10 would be (aside from USC), I think they're doing pretty well so far (other than the whole Oregon/IU thing).
chevy4wd
hey Duck Boy.....we won one. Finally. Though apparently Idaho isn't the best team out west. But we will take that win. They didn't broadcast the game over here in Hawaii. I had to go to the Register Guard website for the highlights. Go Ducks!
hockeyTom
I was shocked to see the outcome of the W.S.U./A.S.U.game. I had turned the game off after watching the Cougs fumble no less than like 5 times in one quarter. Horrible! But the defense won them this one, as usual, and we will take it! biggrin.gif

Hi MDB and everyone. I've cruised around this website before a few times but didn't discover the message board until today. Nice to meet you all. Some personal information:

1. I went to Oregon back when they used to refer to the Oregon/OSU game as the Toilet Bowl. I think there was actually a Duck game they lost 2-0 when I was there. I was in the marching band (ever wear wet wool for an entire day?).

2. I'm now a Bears fan too (going back to the Mariucci days - what a hottie he was then), although I always wear my Oregon cap to the games.

3. I'm single.

Go Ducks!

Look Jamie! Another Band Geek! And an Oregonian no less. Can I ask, can I ask? (I will anyway.)

Hey Wilderblue! Welcome!

We need more Duck fans on this board! Check out the Joey thread & join in on the conversation. And should I know you? Were you there for the 0-0 Toilet Bowl tie?

I believe Gerald Poe was the trumpet professor when I was there but not the band director yet. Geez, I was even a music major but I can't remember clearly. To put the times in context, the only way they could get enough people for the marching band was to force the music majors to be in it for two years. As for the games, there were flasks involved and well... I remember we tried to spell "Oregon" out in script (as Ohio St's band does) but we didn't really have enough people. All my friends in the stands said it just looked like some smushed up scribbling - of course they had flasks of their own... Then there was the time Stanford's band mocked us during their half-time show - that was kind of humiliating (although secretly I longed for the Oregon band to be as cool). There was a certain band trip to Seattle freshman year when we were 4 to a hotel room and I slept with this cute tuba player I had the worst crush on. I was awake all night just waiting for him to "accidentally" reach over and touch me. He never did, alas...

MDB: I think I was at the 0-0 Toilet Bowl. It's so hard to remember. I remember qb Norvel Turner (who was called Norvel Turnover) ran the wrong direction once. Checking out Joey thread...

Hmmm. you were probaly there before me if Gator Jamie's all time favorite band director in the whole wide world was still around. I was there during the Steve Paul years when the Duck band finally became respectable.

I am looking forward to the Ducks getting revenge over the Sundevils who have handed the Ducks two humiliating losses. I hope its payback time.

And here I was supporting you in your coming out process. After that comment I take back my support! Ha ha, just kidding. Good luck to you my new friend. I hope you find inner peace & strength, but once you are totally out, there's nothing finer and you'll ask yourself...what took me so long?

Now, on to the game. Let me start by saying:

Damn Ducks!

Next week is the huge showdown between USC & Cal in Los Angeleees. I have a feeling Cal may beat the Trojans for the second year in a row. They look scary good. ASU also looks good and they were my darkhorse team this year. They were the team nobody was talking about but they added a defense this year that could that makes them a threat to both USC and Cal. And what about Stanford? They could pull off a win over the big 3. The Pac-10 race this year will be very interesting.

Looks like the bottom feeders will be the Northwest teams...although the jury is still out on the Cougs.

My sentiments exactly, MDB....as much credit as Pete Carroll deserves for the outstanding job that he (and Norm Chow) have done in returning USC to a national power, I think Tedford's Golden Bears are gonna knock em off again -- even if they will be playing in front of a hostile crowd on the road (if such a thing exists in SoCal tongue.gif ).

This should be a high scoring phenomenal game that I would LOVE to see in person....I know L.A. is hardly considered to be the hotbed of college football (SEC territory is still #1 in that category smile.gif ) but if the Coliseum is not sold out next Sat. with 90K+ in the stands then those fans are nuts.

Who would have thought that one of the top games in the country would involve two Pac-10 teams?....and if the Golden Bears aren't ranked among the elite teams in the country yet (where I've had em since August) they may likely deserve to be after next weekend.

I just got back from Corvallis after watching my Bears demolish the Beavers. I, for one, have never wanted anything to do with Beavers. The OSU fans, other than the two who stomped our flag on the 30 yard line and got arrested, were the nicest people I have encountered in the Pac 10, right up there with the Clemson fans we met at the Citrus Bowl in '91 and at the NIT finals a few years later. Sportsmen to a man. And woman. Both groups are such a breath of fresh air after decades suffering UCLA dilletantes, USC jerks, San Diego State thugs and, more recently and much worse, the new breed of Stanford fans with their chainlink fence, their idiotic band, their on-field regiment of cops and their smirking sense of entitlement.
wilderblue
Dang. The Ducks just can't seem to get it together this year. But, as Belloti always says, it's how you play in November that counts. Of course, if they are 1-8 going into November I don't suppose it will matter much. They aren't playing really badly - they just can't seem to organize themselves to make great plays on a consistent basis. I'm still predicting they'll end up 4th in the Pac-10 after Cal, USC, ASU (in that order). Stanford and UCLA are overrated at this point. WSU and OSU are struggling at a level one would expect of them. Arizona is out of it. And, it's extremely nice to see the Huskies left licking the empty bowl. Last place in the Pac-10? You bet. (Nothing personal, Husky fans, but what can you expect of me - I'm a Duck.)

As for the Bears - they'll beat USC on Saturday. The most interesting game of the Pac-10 season after this weekend may well be Cal/ASU.

Disclaimer: All written in my humble opinion, of course. If you look at my predictions for last weekend you'll know how full of it I often am!

Hey MDB,

The Ducks sqeaked one out. They (and a few post-game gin/tonics) helped me get over the Bears DEVASTATING loss to that unmentionable team. Actually, it's hard to hate USC, despite my moral and genetic predisposition to do so. Pete Carroll, Reggie Bush and Matt Leinhart are the real deals (and not hard to look at either). It's NOT hard to hate the USC band though and the "numbing repetitiveness" of their fight song (SF Chronicle quote).

Think the Ducks are on the upswing? God, I hope so. It will be embarrassing to wear my Ducks cap to the Cal games if Oregon doesn't keep winning.

I've gone to one USC/Cal game and yes--mindnumbing is an accurate description
wilderblue
Whither the Ducks now? Back to their state-of-the-art locker room, I suppose.

Saturday was not pleasant for this former Duck - not only the game but the resurrection of the painful memories of spending a day in wet wool band uniforms. It's hard to hate OSU as I did way back when. Derek Anderson actually went to my HS (granted, several years after I was there) so if I had to watch the Ducks crash and burn, it was not so bad to see one of Derek's best games ever. (I believe this was revenge for a HS state championship game a few years back when Kellen Clemens and Derek Anderson played opposite each other but Kellen came out on top.)

So, I've hung up my green cap with the yellow O for nine months. At least I have the Bears to watch on New Years Day.
Mariner Duck Guy
Hey Wilder, yes, the game was tough to watch. The Ducks had that one stretch in the middle of the seadon where they looked like they were on a roll, then the 1 point loss to Cal set them back. At least they swept the Washington schools so that made the season somewhat tolerable. I think Belotti shouild let Aliotti go and get a new defensive coordinator. Ludwig has been ok as offensive coordinator, but he's no Tedford.
wilderblue
QUOTE
Mariner Duck Boy:
...he's no Tedford.
One has to wonder what it will take for Belotti to bring the Ducks back to where they were when Tedford was there. Could Tedford have been responsible for the Ducks' glory years? That said, while the offense was sporadic this year, it was clearly the defense that was consistently bad, so I support your idea to get rid of Alioto.

I also wonder what psychological effect the death of Terrance Kelly had on the team. It seemed inconceivable they could lose the game to Indiana, but they did and that set the tone for the season. Kellen Clemens was often impressive during the season, as were Whitehead, Day and others. But they didn't come together to make a powerful team.

Anyway, nice talkin' Duck talk with ya, MDB. Until next year... and in the meantime...

GO BEARS!
