Big boo hoo to Oklahoma! Cry me a river. I like Bobby Knight's response to this controversy. Oklahoma is just crying too badly over spilled milk. It's over and done with. tongue.gif

Aside from Texas, the Big 12 flat out sucks this year. I'm talking about both divisions. It's really sad for one of your teams to win the national championship one year, and then the conference mates come out and lay 11 giant eggs the next year. Texas is going to walk all over that conference.
psulionstorm07
I don't think that is entirely correct

Colorado, although 0-4 including a I-AA loss, almost was successful today against Georgia in redeeming themselves. Watch for continuing improvement the remaining of the season (not looking for a Big XII North championship here, but more of a tweaking for the beginning of the Hawkins era)

Nebraska is decent and getting better. I don't see how you can say they are not good because they lost to USC.

Missouri....watch them. I am seeing signs, even though I picked Nebraska earlier, that they could be easily the Big XII North champion. Blowout after blowout...just watch them.

Colorado even keeping it close against anyone is a surprise these days. I'm wondering how Georgia will respond to the win over Colorado next week. The 'Dogs play Ole Miss, but an upset could be in the making. Take this stat: a week after beating Colorado this season, each team that has beaten the Buffs has suffered a humiliating loss the following week. After beating CU, Montana State was stunned at home the following week 35-24 by tiny Chadron College. Colorado State beat CU and then promptly was whipped 28-10 by previously winless Nevada the following week. And a week after Arizona State bounced into the polls by winning at CU, the Sun Devils gave up 42 points in the first half in a blowout loss to Cal. Ole Miss fans, take notice... a win over Georgia is coming next week. tongue.gif

Georgia is not a great team.

Said it in another thread....their defense is good, their offense is weak. All someone needs to do is stop the defense and they'll win.

Collegeguy obviously drew on all 21 years of his experience for that post. LOL I'll gladly put my Huskers up against his team, whichever it may be.

Troy almost beat FSU in Tallahassee (24-7) and almost beat Georgia Tech in Atlanta (tied after 3 quarters at 14, losing 35-20). But Nebraska just beat them 56-0, with 2 backs over 100 yards and Zac Taylor going 20-23 for 376 yards, 2 TD and 1 INT on a hail mary at the end of the first half.

I agree that Mizzou is better this season, psulionstorm. But the game is in Lincoln and Mizzou hasn't won in Lincoln since '78. I'm just never convinced about Mizzou because they always find a way to self destruct. Maybe this is their year, but I hope not.

Nebraska plays Texas in Lincoln. It'd definitely be an upset if the Huskers pulled it off, but I'm not chalking it up as a loss yet. I think it'll be a close game.
I hope so -- I'll be there for the game! Go Big Red!

I'm a Southern Miss alum, you team did go up against my team, we beat them in Lincoln in 2004.

Very true. Congrats -- you beat the only Nebraska team with a losing record since my dad played for them in 1961. This version of Nebraska is nothing like the 2004 version. I like what Southern Miss is doing with their program lately and they definitely are not afraid to play anyone anywhere anytime. Cool philosophy.

The Longhorns set a Big 12 record with their 16th straight league victory, breaking the mark of 15 set by Kansas State in 1997-98. Texas hasn't lost a Big 12 contest at home since 1999.

We'll see if they can keep it up. OU in two weeks...Nebraska in Lincoln...and Tech in Lubbock.

I'd like to lodge an official protest against inclusion of Andy Roddick *apparently* throwing a childish hook 'em sign. He's a Nebraska kid from a family full of Husker fans and his unfortunate decision to buy a home in Austin aside, he simply cannot have turned traitor and jumped on the Horn-wagon.

I'm lodging the protest with you, HQQK EM, but I'd be glad to lodge it with Andy himself. wink.gif

lol...
Protest noted, but he's an honorary member of the Texas men's tennis team. What's unfortunate is that he grew up in Nebraska! wink.gif He *apparently* got out as soon as he could and if you saw his house on Lake Austin, you would know why he chose to live here!

Trust me. Andy is so much an Austinite I don't think he'll go anywhere else. His brother also lives in San Antonio. Besides, why would he throw up the horns if he didn't want to? Protest all you want but those horns look like they're pointed up meaning he's like me, a converted Longhorn.

Looks like no Bomar for Saturday. Guess the writers will have to find some other angle to make the game interesting.

From the Austin American-Statesman:
"Sam Houston spokesman Paul Ridings said former Oklahoma quarterback/car dealership worker Rhett Bomar will not be in uniform for Saturday's game. Bomar is appealing to have his eligibility reinstated. He has been practicing with Sam Houston's team and attending classes but has not been cleared by the NCAA to play."
NorCalHusker
I'll be interested to see who he ends up pulling for on Oct. 21. He's said some flattering things about the Huskers over the years and his family is often wearing Big Red gear. But I can't really blame him for choosing a house where he did. Nebraska was a great place to grow up (contrary to HQQK EM's assertions to the contrary), but I can't blame him for leaving (like I did). Switching allegiances (if he has, in fact, gone over to the dark side)? That I can blame him for! ;-) Can anyone say bandwagon?

Every time I think Nebraska has turned the corner . . . . Ah well. Perhaps the Big XII North really is just bad this year. My hat's off to the Jayhawks. Despite playing horribly in the first quarter, they simply never gave up. Big plays saved the day for the Huskers, but they need to make different/better adjustments on D or October will kill them: three conference away games and a home gome, against Texas. Yikes. The fans got their money worth last night, but I'm going to need more heart medication if this is the way this season is going to go.
psulionstorm07
Yeah....after this, I think Missouri will win the Big XII North.....they look good.
weirdblackdog
Looks as though the Nebraska/Texas and Missouri/Oklahoma games might actually be good this year. Is the Big-12 more than a 2-team conference after all?

Texas Tech and Texas A&M was a fun game to watch too

I can't get a handle on any of the teams in the Big XII this season, psulionstorm. Mizzou has played well thus far, but the teams they've played have a combined record of 6-19 and all but the New Mexico game were at home. Mizzou has always found a way to lose a few games they shouldn't along the way, so I think many of us are just waiting for the inevitable fall. Maybe this is the year they turn it around, but in some ways they've been the Big XII's Michigan State (without the lead to start the games). Now they go on the road at Tech and at aTm, get KState and OU at home, then go to Lincoln. We'll know an awful lot more about Mizzou after the next couple of games. That said, they look better than any other team in the North right now or at least more consistent.

Of all the aggy "traditions", this has to be one of the strangest!!

It's amazing how you can spin a situation. OU will have to change end zones for next year's Red River Shootout in a deal to keep the game in Dallas. The response of OU is hilarious in saving face and finding the positive in the situation.

"We didn't have to agree to anything." Except the five-year contract you just "agreed" to!!!

It will be weird to sit in the south end, if that's what TX "chooses" to do...

It wouldn't be nice to beat Texas yesterday but the Longhorn defense came out furious in the 2nd half. McCo was solid at QB and has a solid future at Texas. In the end, I had fun at the game despite the loss.

BOOMER SOONER!!

Although I do enjoy shopping at Woot.com, this is not an advertisement. I just thought some of you would love to see the picture they used to advertise their item for today...

Welcome to the win column Colorado, and right now Missouri is about 3 minutes from being welcomed to the loss column.

And Adrian Peterson is now OUT for the regular season with a broken collarbone.

I am not to happy about AD being out with the injury but OU fball must learn to play without him. He's a great part or A LOT of what we do..BOOMER SOONER!!

Great game NU. See you again in Kansas City.

I just got back from Lincoln, HQQK EM. I seriously thought we had that one. That's easily the most exciting game I've seen in person. It had everything, including rain, sleet and snows. I just wasn't thrilled with the final result. All Nunn needed to do was fall down and the game's over. *sigh* But the Horns, through both skill and luck, recovered 6 of 7 fumbles and that to me was the difference in the game.

At least the Horns knew they were in a game this time! I'd love to see a rematch in KC. Congrats to the Horns.
WSU Cougars
Don't forget about OKLAHOMA!!!

We beat #23 Mizzou today at Mizzou 26-10. Oklahoma has a big game vs Texas A&M in College Station next week. I hope we get past the Aggies.
RBear78240
Damn, these late Longhorn rallies are killing me. I've almost decided to wait and catch the game at the second half. That way I at least think we've been in the game since the start. Great game against Texas Tech. It's always fun to play against Mike Leach. You never know what the man will pull out of his bag of tricks. He brings more entertainment value to Big XII football than any other coach.

Too bad for USC. Another one of the unbeatens at the top bites the dust. Can't wait to see how the BCS shakes up this week. We inch closer to the National Championship game. I just don't think we'll cross the 1-2 boundary to make it.

Welcome to Aggieland ESPN Gameday Crew
For Immediate Release
Sunday, October 29, 2006 Toolbox
COLLEGE STATION, Texas- The award-winning ESPN College GameDay, built by Home Depot, is heading to College Station, Texas, for this Saturday’s (Nov. 4) football game between Texas A&M and Oklahoma. The two-hour show airs on ESPN beginning at 9 a.m. central. The football game is set to start at 7 p.m. central and will be shown on ABC.

More information and the exact location will be determined at a later time.

This marks the second trip to Aggieland for the trio of Chris Fowler, Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit and the ESPN GameDay crew. The crew highlighted the Nov. 11, 2000, football game between these same two schools.

In 2000, OU was ranked #1 in the country and Texas A&M was ranked #23. In the fourth quarter with Texas A&M facing a fourth-and-one on the Sooner 27-yard line, 265-pound Aggie fullback Ja’Mar Toombs got the call. He met first resistance at the 20-yard and finally drug three Sooner defenders into the end zone for a 27-yard touchdown to put the Aggies ahead, 31-21, with 13:36 remaining in the game.

The Sooners answered with a 77-yard, 15-play drive as Sooner quarterback Josh Heupel led the Sooners back. OU running back Quentin Griffin scored on a two-yard run, and the score was cut to 31-28 with 7:43 remaining. Less than a minute later, Sooner linebacker Torrance Marshall stepped in front of a Mark Farris pass and returned the interception 41 yards to put the Sooners ahead for the first time with 7:18 remaining in the game.

A&M would not go quietly as Farris rallied the Aggie offensive troops and marched down to the OU four-yard line. Two pass attempts failed and OU took over on downs. OU went on to win the national championship.

A chance? In order for that to happen, TX will have to lose to atm in Austin. TX hasn't lost to atm since 1999 and hasn't lost to them at home since 1994. I just don't see that happening. Then again, I didn't see them losing to KSU, either!!
WSU Cougars
A&M/Texas is always a crazy game. I'm sure the Aggies will pull off a fight. Franchione? needs to get a win vs the BIG 3 which he hasn't yet.

HQQK EM, I'm sorry for your loss too -- I wanted the Huskers to have a shot in the rematch. I guess we're going to have to go old school on y'all and have the Big 8 heavyweights go at it for the Big XII title.

And I hope you caught Andy Roddick on the sidelines of the Nebraska game, all decked out in Husker gear. I reinstate my protest as to his inclusion as a Horn fan! He's red, through and through! smile.gif

I can't wait for the game Saturday. My tickets came in the mail over a week ago!! They are predicting there will be 57,000 - 60,000 Husker fans at the game, in Arrowhead which holds less than 80,000. So much for Oklahoma being the Home Team! biggrin.gif

The weather will be to our advantage as well. We were in the 60's today, but a cold from is coming through tomorrow and dropping the temps over 30 degrees. We are also to have a sleet/snow mix tomorrow night and Thursday. The high Saturday is to be in the mid 30s, but the game doesn't start until 7:00.

This will be my 3rd game this year, and hopefully I will be able to get tickets when we play Boise State at the Fiesta Bowl! smile.gif
WSU Cougars
Looks like I was right and OU is going to the Big 12 title game!! Thank you KSU and A&M for the help haha..

Anyone going to the UT-IOWA Alamobowl???

Count me in the Dome for the Longhorns debut. Should be a fun time. First time for the Horns in the game.
Palladio
I may be at the Alamodome. Not sure yet. If I can get a cheap ticket, then I'll think about it. I'm going to be broke this Christmas season. But the convenience of a bowl appearance only 2 hours away is appealing.
WSU Cougars
I don't think Boise State stands a chance vs Oklahoma.
