From the Associated Press:

"Major League Baseball has entered into an agreement with Eternal Image, a designer of funeral products, that will allow the company to decorate caskets and urns with team names and logos, Bloomberg News reported.

Clint Mytych, Eternal Image's chief executive, said, 'This opens a whole new market for our company--a market that is just waiting for a way to make team loyalty a final statement.'

When this offer goes on the market next year, the guess here is that not too many fans of the Tampa Bay Devil Rays will be interested. Fans of the Angels might be different."

This is just odd beyond all belief. And, as a sidepoint, doesn't Clint Mytych sound a bit like one of Superman's (minor) enemies, though I am glad he avoided the pun that "a market was just dying for this product."

Maybe we could buy a Phillies casket...and bury the team along with it.

That's the guy, or (since he comes from a reverse universe) yug eht s'tahT.

Before the Phillies' burial, we'd have to bury the Royals, Pirates, and this season, the Braves. After all, the Phillies are only eleven games back of the Mets, in second place in the East. wink
