JoePa making light of woman claiming rape

real class there
PhillyFan
Perhaps NOW should concentrate more on Bowden's program who has more than their share of "Problems" and less on the program that encourages its players to be good citizens and go to class. A coach who suspends his player for taking a free suit.. etc.

Or Maybe they should help out the Chic hockey team that just lost to a bunch of HS kids...

Just sayin.

Even though I don't believe, from what I read, that JoePa was making light of the woman's claim, I think that there is a big difference between making light of rape and questioning the veracity of a woman's claim. I don't think JoePa was even making that argument. Some seem to think that anyone who questions a woman's honesty should be strung up by his balls. I hope none of those who feel that way find themselves falsly accused. I don't believe you should lock up all those accused just to make sure no guilty ones get away.

I think it is more likely that JoePa got ambushed with a question about something that he was totally unprepared to answer. He probably was expecting to be asked questions about his team, his game plan and the game. The man is almost 80 years old. It seems very likely to me that he was answering the question off-the-cuff and said things in a way that were misstated or misinterpretted. Give the man a little bit of the benefit of the doubt. Does anyone really believe that JoePa doesn't want those guilty of rape prosecuted and punished? Does that mean that he should believe that every man accused should be punished without proof? I am pretty certain the answer is NO on both accounts. Would you want to have your job threatened every time you mistated something or every time you were misunderstood. Lord knows I wouldn't.

Before anyone starts screaming that I'm for letting rapist go or that I think that every woman who claims rape is a liar let me make it clear that that neither is the case. Nor am I commenting on the particular case stated. I don't have opinions on things that I know nothing about.

If JoePa comes out and states that he believes in the things that he's being accused of then go after him. I for one don't see every man as a monster.

From the AP report:

QUOTE
Paterno's remarks came a day before the Orange Bowl, when a reporter asked about Florida State linebacker A.J. Nicholson, who was accused of sexual assault and sent home before Tuesday's game.

Paterno replied by talking about past suspensions of Penn State players. He then added: \"There's some tough - there's so many people gravitating to these kids. He may not have even known what he was getting into, Nicholson. They knock on the door; somebody may knock on the door; a cute girl knocks on the door. What do you do?

\"Geez. I hope - thank God they don't knock on my door because I'd refer them to a couple of other rooms,\" Paterno continued. \"But that's too bad. You hate to see that. I really do. You like to see a kid end up his football career. He's a heck of a football player, by the way; he's a really good football player. And it's just too bad.\"

---
Guido D'Elia, communications director for Penn State football, said Paterno made his remarks in the larger context of distractions in the bowl-game environment. Nor, he said, did Paterno intend to make light of the assault allegations.

\"I think if you were present, you understood he meant no malice,\" D'Elia said. \"If you heard his tone, he really thought it was too bad for everybody. He was concerned for everybody.\"
And no charges have even been filed yet. A stupid move by NOW.

The alums and Penn State boosters who wanted Joe Paterno gone for the two years before this season weren't successful and NOW thinks they're going have some impact on Paterno's future? Doubtful; it seems like NOW executives felt they had to say something and, instead of merely saying "we wish Coach Paterno had taken time to study this incident before speaking" or words to that effect, the executives went on "full outrage." Stupid of them.

Has NOW taken a stand on Penn State's anti-gay coach Rene Portland?
MIB
No, because she's a woman.

NCLR has filed suit on behalf of the most recently dismissed player. JoePa was AD during 2 years of her long-running Lesbo Inquisition, so he's culpable there, too, in my book.

Of course, Mr. White Socks won't resign over this. But someone's gotta protest. Might as well be NOW.
