Hey Everyone:

Thanks to the efforts of Richie, a huge college football fan and terrific programmer, we will be offering an Outsports College Football Poll.

This will be an interactive poll, where you simply create a user name/password and each week go in and pick your Sweet 16 (we think 25 teams is too unwieldy). You can also post comments that will show up along with the poll results each week. Richie's program will then tabulate the vote and create our weekly Sweet 16.

This will be a cool feature for all you college fans and we will have sign-up details soon.

Assume you guys are up for this?

Count me in -- I'm definitely up for it, Jim! ....kudos to Richie for creating the program, too....only 34 more days til college football season gets under way on August 28th, when Southern Cal (the OTHER USC ) is likely gonna whip the Hokies in Landover, MD.

I was a pollster at least once before. Count me in! If there is too much East Coast interest, though, bench me and put someone relatively new in instead.

I joined an Outsports football pool/on-line competition at the end of the season last year. Who did that?, and is it happening again?!??

It is separate, but there is no lengthy registration. You only need pick a user name/pw for Richie's database (the only way we can ensure that only our pollsters will be the ones voting). We will ask no other info save for an e-mail address so we can send reminders to submit picks.

I'm in too. I've started following big school college football a lot more the past couple years. Should be fun.

I'm glad to have some reinforcements on here, AZ. Being the lone defender of the Canes gets tiresome at some points. However, knowing that I'm right helps me make it through!

Now that the season's about to start, maybe MiamiDR will reappear and help out too.

Can we do this for the NFL as well? Especially since I'll be out of the country for the first week of the season and won't be able to tally up the results for the Outsports NFL Power Rankings as I did last year.

I'm also a Cane defender as my partner is an alum...Our bar by the pool is called "The Ibis."

Count me in! This sounds fun. I wasn't a pollster last year, but I think we need some more Pac-10 pollsters on the panel.

Hey guys, the Web poll is almost ready for this year! It's been hard working on this at night after working 9+ hours a day programming for my day job. <grin>

Someone asked about doing this for the NFL. I can look into setting something up, but that'll have to wait until after I'm done doing the college football poll. Who knows, maybe even college basketball will come online for late this fall.

In any event, it's great to see such interest in people joining in such a scientific poll. And I promise not to let my Virginia Tech / ACC bias ruin any of my voting and commentary this season. (Gosh I hope the Hokies have a winning season ... it's going to be tough!)

Good news: I've deployed the Web Poll! I'm putting the finishing touches on some of the code. Everything should be finalized by Sunday evening.

Please email me (vt2k@speakeasy.net) with a username that you want to use for logging into the poll. This username can be the same or different than your Outsports username. It will also be used for displaying your comments to any of the weekly questions. (If you don't know what this means, you'll easily figure it out once you use the poll.)

Voting will begin on Monday, August 23. The preseason poll will be open to voting until Saturday morning, August 28th, which is the day of the first game.

Being a voting member means you will receive a weekly email reminding you to vote in the poll. This email will also contain results from last week's poll and possibly the results of the AP & Coaches Top-25 teams.

I submitted my picks. And no, I did not put Miami at #1; although I did put them in the National Title game against USC.

I entered my picks last night, too!
But I couldn't tell if they "took"... I was redirected to the main Outsports site after I clicked submit...
