No, not THAT kind of coming out!!
While talking about his decision to release Brock Berlin to transfer, even within the SEC, Steve Spurrious made an interesting comment - he implied that there was a chance that Grossman would declare himself eligible for the draft after this season, and that Berlin could then stay and have two full years at the helm.
Is this just misinformation from The Visor, or is this an (admittedly remote) possibility?

Hey if Rex is only a sophomore (which was the reason he didn't win the heisman) then he is not allowed to enter the NFL. They have a league rule dealing with age and college elidgability -- i am not sure what the actual rule is but i am almost positive that with Rex only being a sophomore that he is not allowed to enter the draft yet. The reason that i am aware of this is because on another board (a MSU football board) there has been a lot of talk concerning Rodgers coming out after the bowl game and other posters made it very clear that he couldn't because he is only a sophomore. I will try to find more info about this rule.

Still haven't found the actual rule yet but from talking to another poster on the MSU board i got some more info -- according to this guy any player that declares for the NFL draft must be 3 years removed from high school -- i am not aware if Rex is (did he take a year off before going to florida).
Plus the more i think about it why would he come out this year. IF you stop and think about other QB's from Florida that have came into the NFL recently they haven't done anything -- most people beleive that it is because of the system that spurrier runs that these QB's put up such good numbers in college and then fade out. Also looking at the QB crop coming out one would question Grossman if he decided to (rules permitting) enter the draft -- without really thinking about it i can name at least 4 or 5 QB's that are sure to go ahead of him -- he is probably looking at a 4th or 5th round pick if he were to enter the draft -- they boy isn't that good at his techniques and look at the tennessee game to get a feel for his questionable decision making at times. Given another 2 years he may (and thats a big may) be a first or second rounder but as for now i would pass on him if i were a NFL scout.

Last year, there were 4 sophomores that declared NFL Draft eligibility, including Michael Vick, Virgina Tech.
Not sure about the other 3, but Vick was red-shirted as a freshman, which probably meets that "3 years removed from high school" you guys mentioned.

CowboysHskr has it exactly - Vick is the prime recent example of the three-year factor.
I believe this was changed partially as a result of the Bernie Kosar situation, where he ended up declaring after his second playing year (although his situation was admittedly different because he was ready to graduate because of an accelerated class load and Advance placement classes).
Rexy did redshirt the first year he was enrolled. IIRC you can play in two games and still preserve the ability to redshirt. If a player is even one play in a third game, the ability to elect to redshirt is gone (medical redshirts are obviously an exception).
There is also a "five seasons in ten years" rule that I don't completely understand, although I think part of it adresses the issue of the LDS players who take two years off to complete their missions.

I had heard he planned on staying until he's a Senior. That's why Berlin wants to transfer. I could be wrong though.

too much - No, you were correct. Sexy formally announced he would be back in Gainesville next year.
Apparently Rexy and his family just wanted to have a "checkpoint" to re-assess everything after the disruption of the Orlando awards ceremonies and the Heisman weekend. Knowing about Brock Berlin's situation, they didn't want to wait until after the bowl game.
This now lets The Visor process Brock's application to transfer. The main factor here is that in the SEC, a player going to another SEC school would have to sit out TWO sesasons, the NCAA mandate year plus an extra league-imposed year. However, if the head coach approves, the SEC waives their extra year, and Spurrious has already said he will do this.
As for Brock, I heard another radio report on a national program (Fox Radio) that Brock is still giving Miami serious consideration.
