It's "aggressively big, resource-guzzling, lots and lots of fun and potentially destructive of everything around it." This from an article in Sunday's NY Times Magazine called Football is a Sucker's Game. [reg. req.] The story profiles the Univ. of South Florida's attempt to raise its profile.

The article makes a good point. Expensive sports at every level is a luxury that we in the USA indulge in.

I would enjoy watching sports just as much if the price of a ticket paid for the entire enterprise. That of course would mean drastic changes in the organization of sports in this country.

It would be intersting to speculate about that.
