WTFO?

There I was at band camp this past weekend for DC's Different Drummers, the DC-area L/G/B band, havin'a great time, being a bandie with my bandie buds. My girlfriend suggests checking the score on the car radio, so we found the game on AM...just as LSWho gets the TD off the fake field goal. In disbelief and soul-wrenching agony, I jumped out of the car, slammed the door and hurled a perfectly-good (and full) Capt. Morgan's & Diet Coke across a corn field, letting loose a string of creative profanity that brought my fellow bandies out of the dining hall.

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCKKKKKKK! I'm having horrid visions of the 70's/80's all over again...

For those of you who think that it's about time, that we deserve it, whatever.

For alla you good sports out there, please share your bourbon, 'cos the is the kind of trauma that only massive quantities of alcohol can cure,

Gator,
I'm sorry to disappoint you, I'm a huge LSU fan. I watched the game and Florida has issues. Grossman does not seem to be "in sync" with his receiving core. I want you opinion if I may ask?
This may sound biased, but LSU looks really good. They have the number one defense in the nation, and have played well since that embarassing opening loss at V-Tech. I think they should have played one game prior to the Hokies and I bet the results would be different. Well, the SEC schedule will certainly give us an indication of who is for real. Georgia looks ok and Florida looks confused. LSU, they look like they are getting better each week.

GO TIGERS
David
GatorJamie
David,

Thanks for your diplomacy in saying that Fla. has "issues." That was an extremely polite way of saying that we are awful right now.

However, that should take nothing away from LSU. You're right - your Tigers are looking very good right now, and I'll bet that you're relieved that VT is not an SEC school.

As it stands now, I still think that UGA is a bit overrated, but I'm projecting LSU/UGA in Atlanta. No idea how to pick the winner at this point, though. If UGA shows that they are for real, it should be a helluva game, and I will pull for LSU.

Top Ten Reasons Why LSU Should Take the SEC, From a Tuba-Totin' Lezbo's Point of View:

10. My dad, aunt, and uncle all retired to a lake in rural central Louisiana.
9. One of my best fag friends is a Tigah grad, and a hot SF lawyer.
8. (Repeating the best-SEC town theory) Yeah, I've heard and believe that their fans can be rude, but I've always had a good time in Baton Rouge.
7. After enough hurricanes, you don't seem to mind that dreadful purple-and-gold combination, and find yourself rationalizing that, well, if you add green, you can pretend it's Mardi Gras.
6. The St. John's River flows north for a reason.
5. What does "hunker down" mean, anyway? That's what my sheepdog does when he gets ready to take a dump. Ick. Why is that a cheer...
4. I'm still not over "LINDSAY SCOTT! LINDSAY Scott!" in 1980, or Herschel & Co. thumping my guys 44-0 in 1982. Ouch.
3. The band factor: LSU's band administration (Frank Wickes and Linda Moorhouse) are former Florida band faculty. UGA director Dwight Satterwhite was earlier the director of my crosstown rival high school band (although he did serve on my drum major panel and picked meeeee ).
2. Another band factor: LSU is one of two SEC schools with female marching band directors (Bama is the other), and Linda Moorhouse is hotttt (check out the website).
1. LSU IS NOT GEORGIA!

Hope not to offend any Georgia fans. This is all meant in fun, and if you think about it, my picking UGA means that I'm expecting you guys to win in Jacksonville at The World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. So - if you were offended, that acknowledgement alone should bring some satisfaction...

Uhhhh, go gators anyway!

Gator,

I feel your pain. Two losing seasons with Penn State were not a pleasant experience.

However, as a die-hard Washington Redskins fan, I'd be happy to let Florida have Steve Spurrier back!!!! He has done nothing for us in the Nations Capitol!
GatorJamie
LionBoy (assuming im4psu is a dude),

Thanks for the condolences. It means a lot (sniff). I was just at the dog park watching my sheepdog "hunker down," and actually thought, "why be so bummed? This is how Penn State must have been feeling the past coupla years." Really! I do hope that JoePa sticks around, though. He's on of those guys who will die as soon as he quits working.

Re Spurrier: Yep, I'll bet Joe-Jane Average Florida Fan wants to swap him for Zook, but I'm still giving Zookie a chance (in between massive doses of anti-anxiety medication, meditation, aromatherapy, anything else to kill the paaaiiin!). Likewise, I'm sure Skins fan want the SpurDog to start packing and head for the nearest golf course.

BUT, as you can see from the tag line, I'm in the DC area, and will be going to the Colts game, as well as a few others. And - while this topic may be better suited for the pro board, I still think that Steve's the man for DC. I think that he brought in the elder Gators (Doering, Matthews, and especially Wuerffel) as "field coaches" to help teach the system. I think that he was disappointed to make the other Gator cuts, but, look, this guy would cut his mom if it would help him win a backyard volleyball game. That's why he played preseason the way he did. For him, it was about winning. For the rest of the NFL, it was about...preseason. Easy to look good against the other teams' 3rd stringers.

The Skins, like the Gators, need help on the O-line, because both teams' QB's are getting their butts kicked. And - the Skins need someone to step up and be the big-play guy (PENALTY: overuse of sports cliches!).

Anyhoo, good luck up there in Happy Valley (love that gay name!).

Aubie my man (hoping that you've found this post),

I hope that your Florabama experience was...well, what can I say? Do they still have the big jar of pickled pigs' feet behind the bar? Being a Dothan boy (Go Trojan Inc.!), I'll bet that you've been to the Fiesta Room in P.C.

So, dude, I'm having a UF/AU party this Sat. nite. My non-football fan partner is being a gracious hostess, even if she is a Boston Yankee, bless her heart. To paraphrase the vocal stylings of Celine Dion, "I know that game will go on," as ugly as it may be.

Here's how I'm billing the party:

BATTLE OF THE BALD-HEADED STEPCHILDREN

What do you get when you introduce a mangy, toothless striped feline to an arthritic alligator missing chunks outta his tail?

AUBURN v. FLORIDA!

Yep, the first contest between unranked teams in the Swamp, I mean, the Terrarium, in ___ (insert number) years, this year's game -- I mean spectacle, I mean, WWE warm-up match -- features a bondo-patched Cadillac with an 8-track player on cinder blocks against Rex GoatBoy, who was formerly a Heisman hopeful, I mean, SEC MVP hopeful, I mean team player-of-the-week hopeful...well, hell, he WAS a really good player in Indiana Pop Warner!

Yessir, Aubie, I feel your pain. And...I've always hated those dumb red Hog hats, bless their hearts. In the 1982 Bluebonnet Bowl (now defunct - duh), our tuba section turned to a bunch of Hog-headed Arkies and did that famous Panhandle cheer - "Watermelon, watermelon, watermelon rind! Look at the scoreboard, see who's behind! You! You! You!"

Unfortunately this was just before the end of the first half, and Charley Pell was our coach. When the Arkies pulled it outta their hinies and came back to beat us, those same Hog-heads turned to our tuba section and chanted...you guessed it..."WATERMELON, WATERMELON..."

Oh, the lessons we learn in college...

Gatorette, I'm glad I drink beer, because I needed it on Saturday. Daniel Cobb is nice looking, but dumber than a door knob.

What in the HELL happened to y'all on Saturday night? Did Zook let y'all watch the Auburn game so you could mimick us? Dayum.

Gatorette, I'm going to the Florabama this weekend; and yes, they still have the pickled pigs feet behind the bar. Unfortunately, they've gone a little upscale on us and it's just not the same.

I wish I were in DC to go to your party; but, alas, I will just do my race, drink my beer, lay on the beach and get tanned until 5:45.

GatorJamie, even the best programs have to take their lumps from time to time....we Gamecock faithful can definitely relate to that -- trust me!....hell, after George Rogers won the Heisman in 1980 and then Coach Joe Morrison died of a heart attack in the shower in the USC locker room a few years later we had more down years than Jesse Helms would in the Castro....during our first few years in the SEC (why'd we ever leave the ACC anyway -- just ask Bobby Bowden about the advantages of playing six "creampuff" conference opponents every season?) to say the 'Cocks weren't competitive would be a MAJOR understatement.

Yeah, I know, the Gators weren't always so mighty themselves before the days of QB Kerwin Bell (who was quite a cutie back in the day - whatever happened to Kerwin anyway?) but then again neither were the Hurricanes before Schnellenberger recruited a bunch of Yankees like Kelly, Kosar, and Testaverde to resurrect that program.....but I digress -- I hope Rex enjoyed his Heisman campaign (and his high draft potential) because that's gone out the window for sure....something tells me Rex and Zook will both be in the unemploykment line in a couple of years (probably sooner in Ronnie's case -- but what do you expect from a former offensive lineman anyway -- you need a former collegiate QB legend like the Visor to direct a high powered offense in the SEC).

I don't mean to gloat but at least WE'VE NOW GOT LOU HOLTZ -- the Gamecock faithful just had to endure 15 years of agony and humiliation to reach the "promised land", that's all....I don't think it will take the Gators QUITE that long to reach the SEC elite again but ya never know....what confounds me is how in the hell the Gators are still ranked #23 in the country in the ESPN/USA Today coaches poll with a 4-3 record after their pastings at the hands of "powerhouses" Ole Miss and LSU ....if this isn't proof that the polls are based more on reputation and past season's performance than anything else then I don't know what is.

As for your prediction that LSU and UGA will meet in HotLanta -- not so fast GatorGal.....don't overlook Lou's Fightin' Gamecocks....I know we haven't exactly looked overpowering in our wins lately but all that matters is the number of W's....and we've got one more EASY WIN upcoming on our schedule than we thought we'd have -- it happens to take place in sunny Gainesville next month.

The Swamp is lookin mighty murky these days, don't ya think?....oh yeah, and if I was Ron Zook I wouldn't be sending my laundry out for any long-term pickup anytime soon....I hear all those wealthy Gator alums are sharpening up the ax that is getting to fall on Ronnie's head in the not too distant future -- would you happen to fall into that category Jamie?

What do ya say all us DC area SEC pigskin fanatics get together for some rollickin entertainment soon?....you just gotta watch where you fling that Capt. Morgan's and Diet Coke after Rex throws his 4th INT (again).

Gator,
Matt Mauck will most likely not play against the Gamecocks Saturday. He was injured late in the contest and will need to sit this one out. South Carolina has looked pretty good, but LSU, I think will shut out the Gamecocks.

David
GatorJamie
David,

Ooof. Sorry about that one. Sexy Rexy is also injured - sprained right knee. The boo-birds may get their way and Ingle Martin may start against Auburn.

I'll bet Gamecock has something to say about a potential shutout. Hmmm. What time is the game? I'll be watching.

GatorJamie
Gamecock,

Thanks for the words of encouragement and the football analysis. This is why I love this board -- none of the "you suck!" "No, you suck!" that prevails on most boards.

I agree -- the time for a game-watching party has come. Let's look at a schedule and check out the best date for maximum football revelry. This week (UF-Auburn, LSU-USC) or 11/2 (UF-UGA) may be good. Joe Theismann's in Alexandria?

U.S.C. is definitely catching L.S.U. at the best possible time, coming off a euphoric victory. If it's a low-scoring game--and I think it will be--the 'Cocks definitely have a chance to pull this one out. Is Matt Mauck really going to be out for the game? I saw him limping off the field late in the game against Florida & had to wonder why he was even in the game at that point, enjoyable as it was to see the Gators humbled.
GatorJamie
Billy,

Indications are that Mauck is out for USC, although that could change over the next coupla days. He was pretty banged up going into the Swamp, as was Sexy Rexy, and both are a little worse for the wear. If Saban is smart, he'll use Mauck sparingly & keep him healthy for Atlanta.

Incidentally, if some miracle comes along and we find it within ourselves to beat your cocks and those dawgs, we could stumble into Atlanta and possibly salvage the season. A rematch against LSU would be nice, but at this point, I'd just be happy if we knocked Georgia out and pulled off a close one against FSU.

If not, I'd like to see your Cocks do well. I like "Gamecock" on this board, I like Lou Holtz, and ...it's time.

Gay Goters,

Dammit, Sexy Rexy is going to be out? I think we would have a better shot with him in. He admitted that he called an audible using Spurrier's signals the other night and it confused the wide receiver, resulting in an interception. I guess he is missing the visor'd one.

LSU will win against USC. I haven't seem them look this good since our "earthquake" game in 1988 at Tiger Stadium.

David[/QB]

David, I hope all those cold winters in Mass haven't started to affect your judgement cuz there's NO WAY LSU is gonna shut out the 'Cocks....I know our offense hasn't been all that impressive lately (any chance of Lou replacing his son, Skip, as offensive coordinator? -- OK, probably not) but if USC will open up the offense a little we'll have all those fans in the Bayou runnin for the exits (like all the Gator faithful did in the Swamp last Saturday night)....with or without Mauck at the helm, you can count on the Cocks lookin impressive in Baton Rouge -- we seem to play up to the caliber of our competition....we'd rather LSU give us the inexperienced QB, though, so our awesome defense can overpower him -- remember no Bayou Bengal can hold our 'Cocks!

GatorJamie, thanks for the kind words -- aw shucks (Gamecock blushing here) -- Joey T's in Alex. might be a decent spot for a group of us DC faithful to catch some pigskin action even though I rarely go there anymore cause I hate to put my hard earned money in arrogant Joey's pockets (not to mention that he's an awful broadcaster but that's a topic for another thread altogether).

GatorGal, you're still stickin with LSU and UGA makin it to HotLanta, huh?....I'll give the Dawgs a shot (btw, their QB David Greene is quite a cutie himself -- for a GA guy anyway) but as for the Bayou Bengals -- between the trouncing they're gonna take at the hands of the Gamecocks and their remaining schedule against AU, KY, Bama, Ole Miss, and Arkansas I can't see LSU remaining on top....the SEC race should be excitin to watch though for more reasons than one....the quantity of cute studs playin down south seems to be increasing every year -- even KY's WR and kick return guy, Derek Abney, #12, is an incredible stud himself -- he's the guy who returned TWO kicks to the house in Gainesville a few weeks ago....one of the few Gator wins lately ).

Good idea to not waste those Capt. Morgan's, Jamie -- you might want to think up a few other ways to take out your frustration as Zook's crew continues to crumble....maybe Rex will need someone to help console him if the losses and INT's continue to pile up -- any volunteers here, guys, to do some "charity" work and comfort a former Heisman candidate in his time of need?

Gamecock:

I'm still going for LSU against y'all. They have way too many weapons on offense and the defense is good enough to hold y'all back. Shutout? Nah.

Gaytorette, my chicka, who is going to win in the swamp on Saturday night. Will may War Eagle keep the gator mesmerized long enough for my Tiger to come in eat some tail?

It should be an interesting game and I hope you have to have plenty of Captain Morgan's in which to drown your sorrow. Now, where ARE my keys to that damn Cadillac?
gamecock
LSU has announced that Matt Mauck is out indefinitely with "a significant injury to the mid-foot"....this is good news for the Gamecocks (who would have won regardless, of course ) but now with the 'Cocks awesome defense combined with an inexperienced QB at the helm, the Bayou Bengals don't stand a chance....just wanted to pass on some helpful advice to the other College Football Pick Em players here (then again, based upon my recent results I might not be the best person to be giving betting advice )....GO COCKS!!
sabres
Gator,
It's freezin up here in Mass!!!....A warm cup of cocoa and a fire and of course a 52 INCH SCREEN TV make it warmer...who am I kidding..I'm in a tiny dorm room at UMASS.

As for the post analysis of the LSU victory, I must say that I was quite nervous in the first half. Yes, Matt will be out indefinitely. It will be determined this week if he will need surgery. If he does, He will miss the rest of the season.

Although this effects the offense, LSU does have the number 1 defense in the nation right now, and this is primarily how they have been winning their games.

As far as the offense, I think that we have enough weapons both run and pass, and it's balanced, to keep opponents guessing.

One more point I would like to make!! If you look at the schedule, and it looks favorable for LSU, they should run the table and finish with just one loss..and that was to Virgina Tech. Providing they beat Georgia in the SEC Championship,it would be wonderful to have the chance at a rematch with V-TEch in the Sugar Bowl now that LSU is playing like they are a top 5 team.

I'ts been a while, although last year was surprising, since LSU has possessed a team that has a strong offense, defense and coaching simultaneously.

GO TIGERS!!!

GAMECOCK: Hope you liked getting put over your knee and SPANKED!!

Let's see what the pollsters on this site think of LSU this week. I strongly disagree with a lot of their positionings.
