When I got my latest issue of The Sporting News last week, I read this article with great interest. Rosenthal hits the nail on the head: THIS BUD'S FOR BOSTON
Joe in Philly
He makes a good case. But then, Selig is such an easy target.

The Evil Empire is the opulent creation of a twisted owner. Red Sox Nation is the most-favored nation of a conflicted commissioner.

You pick a side.
Ah, the cute Mr. Rosenthal neglected to give a third option:

A pox on both of their houses. I don't quite get what Selig gains by "favoring the Red Sox" other than pissing off Steinbrenner. Is that enough?

It's only the end of December and I'm already tired of the Yankees vs. Red Sox in the Parnoia Sweepstakes. My dream: the Yankees suddenly realize that they're old and not very good and suck, the Red Sox implode in a fiery ball of clubhouse toxins, led by Nomah and Manny Ramirez and the Blue Jays and the O's dominate the division.

When does Selig's contract run out? I'd love to see a commish with real power in the job but as long as he's the owners boy-toy, it's not going to happen.

Jim, I think Selig's contract runs through the end of either the 2005 or 2006 season. I'm not sure, so someone else might want to confirm this. Regardless, he's inept, and nothing more than a tool of the owners. BTW, I'm sure this is only a rumor, but talk among some in Chicago here say Selig has talked to his buddy Jerry Reinsdorf about a successor, and the talk has been to convince Reinsdork to take the role.

I'm moving to Fiji if that happens.

Ah, so they want to go from inept to downright awful. Gotta love baseball.

Let's face it, Jim. Do you REALLY think Selig or Reinsdork really care about baseball? They care only about themselves.
Jim Allen
Actually, I do think that Selig cares, it's just that he's fatally tainted by being a "former" owner; there's not even the pretense of him being neutral. Plus, he's just in waaaay over his head.

Hmmm. Personally, I don't think he cares for the game nearly as much as he cares about his image.
