In what must be record time, a studio accepted a pitch for a movie about the Cubs fan, Steve Bartman, who many other Cubs fans bkame for their teams' collapse in the NLCS.

And the Oscar Goes To...

Well, if it means that one less live action movie derived from a comic book or a 50's-70's TV show gets made, I'm all for it.

Otherwise......

I'd be surprised if he doesn't have a book deal already lined up. Have they squeezed in a couple of minutes for him on the morning "news" shows yet? Or would that cut into the valauble time they save for the latest Survivor castoff? Yeah, I know he wasn't the only cause of the collapse of the Cubs, version 2003, but he was the first domino, and then it seemed like the team believed the curse, no matter what Dusty said. Of course it didn't help that Dusty kept Prior in for so long when the Cubs were way ahead in the earlier game...oh, to hell with it, I'm just sounding bitter and spiteful.

If you read the item CAREFULLY, the film will not be *about* or portray Bartman... just take off from the premise of fan interference.

Restraint from making any Gr*dy L*ttle-Rain Man parallels will be appreciated.

How about a Forrest Gump parallel?

In a semi-related note, I read that the WB show "Grounded for Life" was airing an episode Friday night that was about the dad on the show interfering somehow with a play in a baseball game and his team loses. Obviously the episode was shot a while ago. But the WB in Chicago deemed the show too sensitive and wouldn't air it! I just can't imagine people who take this stuff so seriously.

I certainly understand why certain TV shows maybe didn't air after the Columbine shootings (the season ender for "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" springs to mind) or why Ahnuld's "Collateral Damage" was delayed after 9/11. But this was a baseball game.
