Due to the emergence of the new Charlotte Bobcats, the NBA has realigned:
QUOTE
Eastern Conference

Atlantic Division: Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors
Central Division: Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, Detroit Pistons, Indiana Pacers, Milwaukee Bucks
Southeast Division: Atlanta Hawks, Charlotte Bobcats, Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, Washington Wizards

Western Conference

Southwest Division: Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Memphis Grizzlies, New Orleans Hornets, San Antonio Spurs
Northwest Division: Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Portland Trail Blazers, Seattle SuperSonics, Utah Jazz
Pacific Division: Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings
Damn. The Lakers won't have the Jail Blazers and Sonics to kick around as often any more.
QUOTE
The three regular season divisional winners in each conference will earn a playoff berth and one of the conference's top three playoff seeds based on regular season record. The remaining five playoff berths for each conference will be based on regular season records with no regard to divisional alignment

Whenever I think about the great southwest, Memphis and New Orleans are always cities that come to my mind geographically! tongue.gif

Yes, perhaps it could have simply been named the South division. But, except for Minnesota, the placement of the teams in the divisions was excellent. There probably wasn't much that could have been done with Minnesota though.

I think my Wizards came out pretty well. You never know who's going to be good down the line but that looks like a pretty soft group in the Southeast.

Of course, I said the same thing about the Capitals when the NHL realigned, getting away from New Jersey and Philadelphia. And we see where they are now...

That is true of the Caps now. But the first few years of the Southeast Division in the NHL, the Caps simply dominated. I see no reason why the Wizards couldn't dominate this group. They should be competitive... unlike my Knicks, who should just be taken out of their misery and shot. Although they amazed me by actually winning a game the other night against Boston, they really have no future at all regardless of the divisional realignments.
