Look for a green and gold Slam Duck quacking of the Pacers at keyarena!
Trivia: In 1993 what (key) players were traded between these two teams that ended up helping out both teams?
------------
From: Indy Mike
I remember clearly that Detlef Schrempf is who the Pacers traded to the Sonics, but not as sure who we got in return. By process of elimination of key Pacers around that time, I'm going to guess Derrick McKey.

The only way the Sonics are going to beat the Pacers is if the Pacers are tired from three games in four nights. That team is too deep, big and strong for the Sonics who rely too much on jumpers to score. The only teams scarier than the Pacers right now are the Mavs and Kings, who are winning despite not having four of the their best players. The Sonics are fun to watch but they are a good three seasons away from mattering.

Well the Sonics can win games with jumpers, but Nate has bitched out the team and is trying to get them to take it inside more. The Sonics will be bigger when James returns and also Potopenko will give them more size, combine those two with Calvin Booth and Drobnjak and the Sonics are just as good as anyone at the 5. Your right about the Pacers being tired and probably getting the !@#$% beat out of them Wednesday in GP's House of Pain.

Nevermind GP, the Pacers already lost their one game on this trip last night. They'll get rest tonight and likely clobber the Sonics.

Congratulations to Tyne Daley and the Pacers for pulling out that amazing win last night.
Ichiro was at the game looking all nice and cool in his black suit. He was really enjoying throwing those Sonics packs into the stands.
The Sonics being 17 of 26 from the free throw line is pretty much what decided this game.

Yes, neither Tyne Daly or Carrot Top could help the Sonics pull one out over those pesky Pacers. free throws, boys, you must connect on your free throws. Well, that and what had to be lucky three point shots at the end of the game that doomed the Sonics. At least I got a cool talking Kevin Collabro bobblehead doll out of it. By the way, Ichiro looked REALLY hot last night.

Well whattaya know. The Pacers won as I predicted, though not in the usual run-them-out -of-the-gym way. They are clearly the best team in the east and one of the top three in the league. Though it's true Seattle missed a lot of free throws, it was actually a missed Pacer free throw that even allowed the game to go into overtime in the first place. GP basically had a career night but the Sonics are too weak up front right now. I would go after one of the Clippers free agents in the off season to beef up.

The Pacers can thank the Sonics being sloppy at the end of regulation, plus a little luck in getting off that 3, then TWICE in OT two more unbelievable, unprobable 3 pointers. When there was only 4 seconds left I was thinking of Reggie Millers game vs. the Knicks, so this didnt completely shock me. Nate drilled them with a 4 hour practice today and wasnt very happy about that game. It would be nice to have someone larger at the 4, what they need is for Rashard to step up and start earning his pay, maybe he could bulk up some, but I dont think you need a dominating center to get there. The Sonics could do the Center by commitee like the Bulls did, they have 4 good centers to rotate through there. When they were winning 60 games a season they were doing it with Sam Perkins, and the starting center Ervin Johnson only played about 10 minutes a game.
Jermaine O'neil would look really nice in Green and Gold.

Clearly? They're 15-3. There seems to be another team in the East that is 15-4. There's not much of a difference between 15-3 and 15-4, is there?
Hey MDB-gotta tell ya,I got a real chuckle out of you talking about your Kevin Collabro bobblehead doll.I sort of knew he did Sonics games-his younger brother Dave is a sportscaster in Indy and has done color for Pacers and Dolts as well.Kevin was either a year or two younger than me-their dad was principal at the elementary school I attended, and we all went to school at the same schools all thru high school.Just kind of struck me as funny that people were buying bobbleheads of a kid I knew growing up

Joe,
I'm not just looking at records when I state the Pacers are clearly the best team in the East, I'm looking at depth, talent and lessons learned over the season. This is a team that tooked the Eastern Conference champs to Game 5 in the first round and it took overtime for the Nets to win. Now two things usually happen after a tough loss like that. The team either gels together and come out more focused in the following season, like the Pacers and Kings, or they fall apart, like the Blazers. With tough defenders, one of the greatest clutch performers of all time, and two 7 footers who can score inside and out as well as rebound, I think by the end of the season the Pacers will be a good 5 games ahead of the nearest competitor.

It's a false team?
My point is it's still pretty early to decide that one team is clearly the best. Especially considering that Indiana lost on Saturday night by 11 points to a 6-14 Denver team.
To add to Joes point-clearly one of the main reasons for the Pacers fast start was that they played 10 of their first 15 games at Conseco. They didn't exactly play the roughest schedule either-I think their only real test against an Eastern power was at NJ and they got slammed. They are 2-3 on this current road swing beating the Clips and Sonics, but crashing back to Earth with losses to Utah and the Nuggets.IMO,if they are the "best" the East has to offer, then the East is even weaker than last year.

Well, I don't know what kind of Raptors team we're going to be able to throw at you GP, but it's not going to be pretty. Last night we lost to the Cavs(!) minus Vince Carter, Antonio Davis, and Alvin Williams (who was injured at the start of the game). Take the 3 best players from the starting lineup of any team and they're not going to win. Everytime somebody comes off the DL, somebody else goes down. It's been a very frustrating season.

Sorry canmark, I'm sure things will get better with the Raptors when theyre healthy again. I was actually worried about this game because the Sonics have been playing to the level of their competition. They'll beat someone like San Antonio or Philly then lose to someone like Memphis or New York. Next up is a tough defensive match up with the Pistons.

No enthusiasm on the court. No want to win. Sadly they look like the Celtics (not this year) for the last 2-3 years. I'd boo but I don't want to draw attention to fact that I paid $90/seat.

Yeah but it looks like things are starting to fall into place. Seattle is swooning, Minnesota is underachieving yet again. It wouldn't surprise me if the Lakers moved up to a number 6 seed. It would bum me out to no end, but it wouldn't surprise me.
And how about that spanking my Spurs put on those Seattle Subpar Sonics!
RCKSoniK
Jan 10 2003, 03:35 AM
George I would hardly call that much of a spanking, the Spurs didnt look like they were all that great either, the Sonics just looked asleep. And Mr. Eastside if your for real gimme a break, the Sonics have only being playing like this the last 3 games, hopefully Anderson will get the boot or something and things will get shook up. And George the Sonics will go back and humiliate the Spurs on their court just like they did last time.
I know its not for real, that is so ridiculous.- refering to "EastsideWa's" post
The obvious major difference in the last 3 games is Kenny Anderson getting the injured Brent Barry's minutes and more playing time. This is messing up the chemistry. Kenny Anderson wants to be a starting PG in the league and he knows he cant do it on the same team with GP. Hopefully Barry will be back for the next game.

GP, I'm not one to berate another's team, but what stupid play by Desmond Mason last night. LAC gave you all the gift of OT and Mason just squandered a rare opportunity with his indecisiveness.

Jan 11 2003, 09:12 PM
Mason, Lewis, and Radmanovic are starting to believe what everyone is saying that theyre 3 great young players on the rise, and it seems as though they have the attitude that its still okay for us to be making dumb mistakes. That needs to change. Mason is a fun player to watch, but I think Nate may have talked to him about his showboating which sometimes leads to bad descisions. But indesciveness is worse, I didnt see this game vs. the Clips, but something is wrong.
Oh your talking about the play at the end of the game where Mason stole an inbound pass and had a chance to tie? The point is the game shouldnt have even came down to the last shot.

Payton might be on the block for a trade. What's the talk up there?
RCKSoniK
Jan 14 2003, 09:41 PM
Trading Payton would be dumbest thing they could ever do. These rumors come around every year, but I think managemnt knows that trading Payton would mean pissing off most of the die hard Sonics fans. A more likely scenerio I see is Anderson going somewhere in a deal.
Things have really hit an all time low here. Ive never seen GP so pissed that he's kicking stuff after a game and Brent Barry cussing in a post game interview. And Nate said he's never experienced anything like this in his 17 years as a Sonic. Hopefully this is the point where things get so bad they have to get shaken up and turned around. But trading GP would be a HUGE mistake.
I am sort of curious if there isnt sort of some hidden agenda in giving Anderson more playing time lately, his personal numbers have actually looked pretty good, maybe this increases his trade value, and helps the Sonics get rid of him.
I am really anxious to see how the team comes out and plays Thursday in Utah, then of course your Mavs are here on Sunday. Now this team has been through an unbelievable 4 game losing streak where every game was lost on the last shot of the game and now this 5 game losing streak where theyve just played like SHIT, if they can get through this together it could build character. I am also curious and anxious to see if theres any shake-ups in line-up with a trade or anything hopefully with Anderson.

What a sad day in the history of Sonics basketball. Its like someone ripped something outta the heart of every Sonics' fan. I hope GP is somewhere at the keyarena tommorow, so everyone can show their love for the Glove. If the Sonics were smart to keep good relations with their fans they would retire the number 20 to the rafters during tommorow's game. I was hoping GP would play but I cant imagine 17000 people in the keyarena cheering against the Sonics. At first I was pissed thinking the Sonics were taken and betrayed GP, then I was sad and thought maybe its better that GP goes somewhere where he can win a championship, then I thought maybe this better for the team in the long run to have a much younger all star in Ray Allen to build around, then I was mad that New York didnt go through with their part of the deal acquiring DMase and Cassel from Milwaukee for Spreewell, What the Hell does Milwaukee need 2 point gaurds for? GP needs to run the show wherever he is at. I just want to see GP win a championship.
This was a sad day, but maybe its better for the long-run. frown
