Assistant Chris Ford is taking over. Not surprising. Injuries haven't helped, but this team is a mess.

I knew it!!

A couple of weeks ago I was watching a Sixers game and I said, "I wouldn't be surprised if this guy gets fired."

Pretty soon the tenure of an Eastern Conference coach will be measured in hours.

Good riddance - the guy is a dunce.

I saw a segment on ESPN2 and their analysts were ripping Billy King big-time. Can't say I blame them. This team has been a mess most of the year. However, while the injuries haven't helped, I think Randy Ayers was in way over his head. One of the things they mentioned was a game back in December where he tried to send Dalembert in for Coleman and Coleman told Dalembert to get the hell back to the bench, and Ayers ended up leaving Coleman in. From that point on, when I read about that, I figured Ayers' days were numbered.

Injury-prone, occasional bad attitude and/or work habits...they never ever EVER should have brought Coleman back.

It's too bad that Randy's players didn't respect him enough to play hard. The Sixers need a take charge coach someone not afraid to ruffle some feathers. They will probably just play out the string and consider a new face in the offseason unless assistant Chris Ford pulls a miracle out of his hat.

I was listening to WFAN today, and they were mentioning that Larry Brown 'dropped in' on the Sixers practice the other day. (Brown's family still lives in the area). Is Brown nuts or what? Probably didn't sit too well w/Sixers' management!

JIP - your comments about Coleman were directly on point. The guy is a cancer.

Randy Ayres lost total control of the team. I also agree with Phillyrunner's analysis -- but there is always that possibility. Hope springs eternal in Philly...or something like that.

Brown is nuts. wink But everyone with the Sixers say he didn't really drop in on the practice itself, but just showed up at their practice complex to visit with the GM and others, and they say they didn't mind it a bit.

What's galling is they not only brought Coleman back, but signed him for THREE YEARS!

I see that Chris Ford got them a 113-88 win...of course, it was against the Wizards.

You gotta like Chris Ford if not for his being in the cast of the classic 70's hoops flick "The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh" starring Doctor J. He also has much more experience than Ayers in the fact that he was the head coach of the Celts, Bucks, and Clippers. But w/ the crew like the answer (or the question mark about practice), D.C., and Big Dog you'll need a miracle worker.

That trip to the NBA finals seems so much longer ago than three seasons! The GM is the one who should have been fired. "Okay, I've already got Derrick Coleman, one of the most cancerous underachievers in recent history. Why don't I go out and see if I can land Glenn Robinson? He'll help motivate DC for sure!". I have no idea if Ayers was a good coach or not, but he didn't create this mess. Billy King is playing a game of Cover Your Ass.

"But everyone with the Sixers say he didn't really drop in on the practice itself, but just showed up at their practice complex to visit with the GM and others,,," (Joe in Philly)

What pray tell is the difference between 'drop in' and 'showed up'?

If you are the coach of another team (Brown, Pistons) - you have no business 'showing up' 'dropping in' on another teams practice!

If I were w/the Pistons management... I'd be pretty darned p*ssed! They payed good $ - for Larry Brown!

I think the distinction is that Brown claims he didn't actually go to into the gym, but rather just went into the offices to see the GM. A fine distinction to be sure, but he's saying he wasn't actually in the gym with the players while they were practicing.

He was a figurehead while Larry Brown was here. All player moves were really dictated by Brown. Now he doesn't have that as an excuse.
