Steve Howe, the former Dodger great who was named Rookie of the Year in 1980, and helped the team win the World Series in 1981 only to be bedeviled by addictions to drugs, died in a one-car accident today. May he be granted the peace that eluded him in life.

dude was suspended seven times for drug abuse of one kind or another during his checkered career.
A sad ending to a tragic life.

So much talent, too. Still remember a World Series game against the Yankees where he was just mowing them down for a few innings...

Sadly, it is as most of us expected. The coroner's report indicates that Steve Howe had methamphetamines in his system at the time of his fatal truck accident. Said Riverside County Sheriff spokesman, Earl Quintana: "As to whether the methamphetamine was a contributing factor is unknown. They'll look into the crash, considering the new revelation, looking for a causal effect. They'll know more at the end of the investigation."

Steve Howe was such a good looking man and a talented pitcher. But, tragically he was the poster boy for substance abuse, which finally finished him off. May God cradle him in His arms to give him the peace he deserved in his too short career and life.
