One of the (supposedly) 50 Best NBA Players, Michael Jordan hanger-on Scottie Pippen has finally announced his retirement. Pippen was one of the most overrated players during my time watching the NBA. He solidified his rep in my mind when he refused to go into a game with seconds left on the clock because the play wasn't designed for him to get the last shot. Instead, Toni Kukoc got the shot, hit it and won the game while Pip skulked off the court, pout on face.

Certainly a topic for debate, whether he really belongs on the 50 Greatest list. He said yesterday, no doubt in response to all the people who have said he has no titles without Jordan, that Jordan has no titles without him.

I do not think Pip's entire career should be relegated to 0.8 seconds of one game. Yes, he was wrong. He admitted he was wrong. So what?
I had a chance to see Pip up close for 4 years in Portland. His numbers were down due to age and injury but he held together a nightmare team put together by a fantasy league GM backed by an unlimited checkbook and zero regard for character. Few outsiders realize what his leadership did in Portland. I doubt they'd have won 30 games without him some of those years.
Pip is one of the 50 greatest. He and Jordan were complementary. Jordan would not, as he has admitted, been free to be the artist he was without the workmanlike Pippen doing everything both ends of the floor.
On my wall is a lovely 8 x 10 photo I took of Pip in 2000 which he was kind enough to personally autograph to me. I got his attention by sitting in the 2nd row with a big sign that read "Great Scottie!!! (Michael who?)" which made him laugh.
Thanks for the memories, Scottie.

I think there in no doubt he deserved to be on the 50 Greatest Players of all time. No Doubt at all!! Super talent and one of the top 5 defensive players of all time in my view

I'm going to really miss Pippen. He was my favorite player until Steve Francis got drafted. I honestly don't think JOrdan would have 6 rings without Scottie, but it was way pass time for him to retire.
