The first big trade prior to the trade deadline sends Mike Miller to the Grizz (with Ryan Humphry) for Drew Gooden and Gorden Giricek.

Trade rumors here in Dallas about Nick Van Exel to the Heat for Brian Grant. Time will tell....

Minutes to go before the deadline, and most trades are still rumors. MSNBC is reporting that the Celtics have traded Shammond Williams to Denver for Mark Blount and Mark Bryant. No sense in Walker getting beat up for all those rebounds. I'm pretty sure they did not pick up those two to help with scoring.

The Sonics made a couple of huge deals today. They sent Gary Payton and Desmond Mason to Milwaukee for Ray Allen, Joel Przybilla and Kevin Ollie. They also sent Kenny Anderson to New Orleans for Eldon Campbell. I hope somebody is near gp43 with some smelling salts!

Player-wise it seems that Milwaukee got the better of the deal--The Glove and Desmond Mason being better than Ray Allen (who lets the game come to him rather than taking it over) and Kevin Ollie. However, Payton's contract ends this year so it may all be for naught.

Will Kevin Ollie be the starting point guard for the Sonics now that they've traded Payton AND Kenny Anderson?

And can Gary Payton and Sam Cassell exist on the same team?

And guess who plays on ESPN's late game Friday night? Milwaukee @ Seattle. I guess all questions will be answered then.

Interestingly, I just heard on ESPN that the Knicks and Bucks have requested an extension of the trade deadline. The reported proposal would send Latrell Sprewell to the Bucks for Sam Cassell. This would resolve the point guard question in Milwaukee. And Cassell is unhappy enough that a change in venue might do him some good. No word on whether the extension request will be granted.
