Legendary announcer Jack Buck has died. I won't write an entire obituary, but just say that if you know who Jack Buck was, you feel the loss.

Let me close by paraphrasing his call of Mark McGwire tying Maris's season home run record, "Pardon the interruption while I stand and mourn."

Buck was one of the last old-school guys out there. No gimmicks and he had enough respect for the fans and the game he was broadcasting to know he wasn't the star. Fortunately he has passed this knowledge to his son Joe. So, while Jack Buck will be missed greatly, we at least have Joe to carry the torch for him.
