Larry@LA:
MVP should mean all-around excellence. If a player is so bad defensively that he hurts his team in that area, that's got to affect his value. Jordan had the full package. So did Shaq, before the 370 pounds did him in.

Kobe can play great defense, but only when he wants to -- he's usually too focused on scoring (although probably by necessity).
370 pounds? Hick! Try 400. Shaq is getting old and is now a shadow of his former self. Plus, he's lazy, doesn't jump well anymore, doesn't fight for rebounding position, misses easy lay-ups, and is constantly reaching on defense instead of moving his overloaded feet. There are times when I think his presence on the floor actually hurts the Heat's offense. This is not the same fiery and mobile player I used to watch at LSU.

Well, allegedly he's down to 325 now, although I wouldn't be surprised if he approached 400 at the end of his Lakers' days.

Not that I'm happy about the Lakers' having traded him even up for Odom and what turned out to be Kwame Brown (plus Brian Grant's albatross of a contract), but over the next 3 years, I bet the Heat are going to view the deteriorating Shaq and his huge contract as a major liability, just as Dwyane Wade is coming into his own as a superstar.
