I can understand what Baltimore is doing. I go see them play every year, and I will definetly go this year to see Sosa. However, with seemingly only one good pitcher on their staff in Rodrigo Lopez, the Orioles are the Kansas City Chiefs of the MLB. All offense, no defense. They know that good pitching beats good hitting right? And that they're in the AL East?
sigh...

They're trying to sell tickets. I wonder if Sosa is that much of a draw now?

I would assume so. Hes going to crush 50 HRs in that little bandbox. Well...so long as he is healthy.
That place is so small it looks like I could hit one out.

With Wrigley it depends more on the wind direction.
Camden Yards is shorter down the lines, but not so much in the power alleys. In fact, dead center is 410 feet compared to 400 at Wrigley. The right field line is only 318 at Camden Yards, but the wall is higher there.
Even with a productive Sosa, and that's assuming he's not caught corking his bat or hurting himself while sneezing, I can't see the Orioles any better than third place.

Sammy Sosa is what LeBron James will look like in 15 years.

Camden Yards isn't as hitter friendly as the friendly confines of Wrigley, but Sosa should benefit by being part of a hitter's lineup. I don't expect him to hit 50 anymore--age, health, "substances"--but he should be able to rebound from last season. I'd worry that the Orioles may be able to win games 12-10 (as an example) but will lose a lot of them 5-2.
Agree with Joe that the signing has lots to do with selling tickets, especially since the Orioles had always drawn crowds from the DC area and now have to comepete with the Nationals and wonder whether Sosa, hitting 40-50 home runs, is an audience draw.

Yeah, I don't understand why they didn't try to pick up a quality starter?
It looks like they're only interested in selling tickets and despite the bad press Sosa's been receiving lately, he's still a very likable person.
