You think some of the players are trying to show their past success wasn't merely because of Larry Brown?

I appreciate what Larry Brown did for the Pistons but he always seemed very eccentric to me.I think that's why he made some "hasty" decisions about leaving the Piston's organization.JMO

Tonights game will be Bob Hill's first real test, as Sonics new head coach. Sonics are undefeated with him. Some very interesting things in last game, they did play better defense but he used Radmanovic in the starting line-up, Rad is totally an offensive threat. Also the teenage 7ft. centers, Petro played excellent. Most shockingly were not playing at all Potopenko and Fortson though, and especially Evans who was on a tear of late. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight with the Sonics in Detroit.
Halftime- Fortson has got some playing time. Still no Evans or Potopenko. Petro has looked great like a veteran there going up against Wallace. Pistons 45 Sonics 44
Game swung on something very questionable. Coach Hill had his foot on the court, Billups stepped into it just before taking a 3 pointer he missed, they called bench interference and Hill got a tech, Sonics were only down 7 with 4 minutes left, this was a 4 point swing though. Positives to take out of this, good defense again, Detroit averaged 106 at home, and Petro has been looking great.

Unfortunately the NBA and the media push us all to be obsessed with the individuals like Kobe Bryant, Lebron James and Shaquille O'Neal. The NBA is so weird in that nobody cares about the actual teams.

The problem is that the best teams (Detroit, San Antonio, Dallas) aren't "sexy" enough for the media. Sad that there is more attention paid to the idiot Ron Artest, the ball hog/rapist Kobe Bryant, the dour Shaquille O'Neal, etc.
Adam
Jan 29 2006, 04:50 PM
And when the "unsexy" Pistons and Spurs make it to the Championship Series, the NBA powers-that-be wonder why the ratings are down.
Unless you have a trancendent figure (like Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson before him) marketing individuals seems a huge mistake for a team game.

Okay enough's enough. I need to know now. Why does Rick Hamilton wear that stupid plastic transparent mask. Did poor Rick break his nose once and is still going through psychological flashbacks of the terrible ordeal?
It seems like an unfair advantage for him to be wearing this mask, because he can go to the hole with more aggression than the average player who is not wearing a mask.

Well, maybe if you ever break your nose, you'll find out.I understand that depending what type of break, there is a risk of extensive damage if it ever gets broken again.Any experts out there???

Rip has broken that nose THREE times and if it ever gets broken again it will require extensive surgery that will lose him for the entire season..
Can't really get the full effect on television, but if you've ever been around him in person, his body is like a male version of Calista Flockhart (i.e.- he's so skinny that a mild breeze looks like it would blow him over!)...
The decision is not really his to wear the mask; it's made by the powers that control his cash-flow... wink

While the Pistons have been amazing this season, let's not crown them champs just yet. They just lost back to back games to the Knicks and Bobcats, the league's worst teams, and are only 1 game up on the Spurs and 1 1/2 games up on the Mavericks for the best record in the league. And Miami is really coming together recently and making a nice run. The playoffs, especially the conference finals, should be fun.

I'm pretty sure we beat the Bobcats 108-103. Followed by a victory over Atlanta.

My bad. They did beat the Bobcats (barely) but have recent losses to the Lakers and Bullets. And the 7 point win over the Hawks is nothing to crow about.
Also playing an Eastern Conference schedule could be inflating their record just a tad. I'm not saying they won't win the East or even win it all, but they seem to have hit a bit of a wall (only 6-4 in their last 10 games) and their lack of depth could be to blame. With only 15 or so games remaining, this isn't the best time to be coasting.
The Spurs and Mavericks are blessed with deep benches while the Pistons have relied almost solely on their starters (great starters for sure) and have been fortunate they've been just about the healthiest team in the league this year.
I just think it's pretty amazing that given Detroit's torrid start and all the talk about a 70 win season that the Spurs and Mavs are within 1 game of the best record in the league.

OH EDDIE!...quit being such a nervous nelly..
You should know that's the Pistons M.O. this season; feel 'em out the first half and bury them the second! The Suns just didn't adjust their offense the second half after the Pistons changed their defensive strategy. The Palace was definately rocking this afternoon!

Yeah, but we still got the TIGERS!...With 19 wins, they're tied with Chicago and Cincy with the most wins in the league and only a half game behind the White Sox for the lead in the Central!!!...Best start since the 1984 World Series-winning season....

Okay, this is not part of the basketball theme but who cares. Since the Tigers were brought up, lets remember one thing. We can be a little bit excited for the Tigers. However, lets remember that we are only 29 games into this season. If we reach the all-star break and are still a few games over .500, then get excited. There is a lot of baseball left. However, I was at the CoPa on Wednesday. The excitement in the crowd was like nothing I have ever witnessed at this stadium. The fans were into it because they knew it was a close game that the Tigers could win (and did!). It is nice when you can count on them to win one instead of rolling over and dying.

Welcome to the board,Valuetk! I agree with you.
I think what I like this season is that it doesn't feel like they're giving up.Last season I was just as angry about their obvious lack of effort as I was by their record. However, since this thread is about the Pistons....GO PISTONS!

Considering their home record against the Pistons, don't expect much of a home court advantage for the Cavs. They are growing up fast but the Pistons will definitely take one, maybe both, games in Cleveland. On paper, this was a mismatch from the time the brackets were announced.
Looks like the refs have decided to take some revenge on Shaq for his loud-mouthed criticism. They're calling tick-tack fouls on him now that they used to let go. Miami's looking very vulnerable this year. Wade is defintely not healthy, and, Shaq has been ineffective (and downright lazy) in every aspect of the game except dunking.
LarryC
May 10 2006, 08:09 PM
And Shaq has another mediocre outing tonight, so the Heat ride along on Wade's brilliance instead. If Shaq doesn't find religion soon, the Pistons are going to pummel Miami.

Yeah, the Pistons will probably win this series, and the next, but not sure about the pummel part. As for the next round, I wouldn't put any money on Miami; they've got heir hands full with the Nets; if they can figure out a way to contain Wade, will definitely beat Miami. Shaq is not playing well.
