Full Version: Coleman a Sixer!

Derrick Coleman was traded from the Charlotte Hornets to the 76ers in a trade also involving the Golden State Warriors. Maybe he will finally live up to his expectations. Even if he comes close, the Sixers will benefit. But if he pulls his usual crap, this could really set the Sixers back. I guess Larry Brown is the right man for the job though. Here's how the trade breaks down.

Philly gets Coleman as well as Vonteego Cummings and Corie Blount from the Warriors.

Hornets get George Lynch, Robert Traylor and Jerome Maiso from Philly and Chris Porter from Golden State.

The Warriors get Cedric Henderson and a conditional 1st round pick in the 2005 draft.

Sounds like the Warrior GM is begging to be fired!

Warriors may soon replace Clippers as the biggest joke in the NBA. Whats goin on with Marc Jackson now?

From my viewpoint, for the Sixers this is a DISASTER! Coleman has been with three teams, including the Sixers, and burned his bridges all three times. Yet for some reason Larry Brown likes him. This isn't an Iverson situation--this isn't a young player in need of maturity. This is a veteran who has always been an overpaid underachiever.

It's worth noting that Pat Croce, who is a big believer in positive thinking and getting the best out of people (he played a part in getting Iverson and Brown on the same page) had said in the past that he'd NEVER take Coleman back on the Sixers. But Croce is gone now, and Coleman is back.

Between the Coleman debacle and all of the injuries they have right now (even more than they had during the Finals, believe it or not), I will not be too surprised if the 76ers take a major tumble this year--perhaps even to the point of missing the playoffs.

joe philly, joe philly,

do not despair my friend. i think that the
sixers will definitely make the playoffs
because there really is no other team in the
east to reach up and grab that coveted eigth playoff spot. but as for getting out of the
east, or even past the first round for that matter...well, that's a different story. coleman reminds me of elden cambell when he
played for the lakers, malcontent underachieving scrub. but it's all good. the new look lakeshow debuts next tuesday!!!

The Hornets finally found a sucker to take Coleman. Thats the best move their GM has made since the team was formed!

from today's Phila. Daily News:

QUOTE
Pat Croce could only shrug at the return of Derrick Coleman to the 76ers. And he was aware that coach Larry Brown said, \"We didn't make this deal to affect Pat's relationship.\"

But the former Sixers president hasn't changed his feelings about Coleman, the 6-10 forward who was with the Sixers from 1995-96 to '97-98 and came back in Thursday's three-way trade with Charlotte and Golden State.

As president, Croce made it clear he would not have been in favor Coleman's return, although no specific trade ever was presented to him. Coleman spent the last three seasons with the Hornets.

\"I was not a fan of Derrick,\" Croce said. \"My past experience with him was not pleasant. There was a lack of commitment to the fans and the team.

\"I'm hoping for things to be better now. But I was there. He would never do anything that was asked of him: going to hospitals, signing autographs, nothing.

\"Basketball decisions are one thing. This was a value decision [for me].\"

So, if Croce, who stepped down in July, were still president, would he have approved this deal?

\"I'm not the president,\" Croce said.
