I don't understand why the Celtics, who were among the most improved teams in the league last year, would want to take on Baker. I don't really care as I am not a Celtics fan. Just seems like a dumb move to me.

The Lakers, Kings, Mavs and Spurs must be shaking in their boots!

Seriously, while dumping Baker can only be a positive, how much will Forte, Anderson and Potapenko improve this team?
RCKSoniK
They should help a bit, but the big thing is NO BAKER! Last year the Sonics had a winning record when Baker was out of the line-up and a losing record when he was in the line-up. He was a drag on the team, always whining and getting hurt and pushed around. Plus the Sonics have freed up more money to sign other players and make more deals. They do need Anderson so that GP doesnt have to play every minute of every game. They could use Potapenko and Forte to make another deal.
RCKSoniK
Aww, and mark my words. The Sonics will finish ahead of the Spurs this year.
Sorry to break the news, spursfan

Mayor Paul Shell "Be gentle with our city"- please no riots during the Vin Baker is leaving celebration and parade
Vin Baker "I'm not soft" later appears on the news in tights doing the nutcracker play for kids charity

GP, I heard on the radio that your boy Rashard Lewis is visiting Mark Cuban on tomorrow.
fanonscudder
shout out from Boston...the Vin Baker love-fest has begun in the papers. Vin talking about how he is going to become an All-Star again, how he was the hardest practice player in Seattle but never got the ball in games (diss on GP?), Vin's parents so exited to have their "baby" come home, and how he is "only" 6-7 pounds over his playing weight at the moment.
The reality is, the trade actually saves the Celts $1 million! They won't pony up money to re-sign Rodney Rogers, but they will bring in Vin...

Sonics are willing to go over the luxury tax this year to keep Rashard. He is staying. He is just playing the money game with the Sonics, he's not gonna play behind Nowitzki and Finley in Dallas for 15 million when he can be the main guy in Seattle for 60-70 million.

You are stuck with Vin for 4 more years, you are now paying Vin, Pierce and Walker the max's, all you can do now is fill the rest of the line-up with role players. Shammond is not a good point guard, he is a poor handler, and doesnt pass the ball, though a good shooter. I hope Vin can do better in Boston, He is not a bad person, but has mental problems and gets in the habit of feeling sorry for himself. You better hope his fragile confidence isnt broken right away. He also has a habit of turning the ball over.

Oh my God you are in for such a surprise, this is the same BS we've been hearing for the 5 years. And GP was the only person sticking up for Vin till last year, that was just too big of a task.
RCKSoniK
What does this tell you?
Sonics with Vin Baker 26-29
Sonics with Vin out injured 19-8
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY!

..

I could just picture these scenerio's next year.
-Vin gets knocked to the floor and hurts his big toe, no foul is called. Celtics need to stop play while Vin is on floor "mommy they pushed me and hurt my toe"
-Vin get the ball dunked over his head, he hurts his head and has to stop while he's regaining conciousness. "mommy tell them to stop, my head hurts"
-Vin gets a shot blocked and gets knocked to the floor again, he's on the court hurt. "mommy I need a krispy kreme doughnut"
-Vin has another turnover and Antoine and Pierce start yelling at him. "mommy why wont anyone be nice to me"

I'll quit the Baker Bashing, I hope he does well in Boston, but seriously I dont think he will.

Celtics4Life
Okay people!! It's time for a real authority on the Celtics to put his take on this situation in. I havent't been able to respond in the last few days because I was out of town but I'm back now and for the record I will say that "THIS IS AN OUTRAGE", in the immortal words of Mr. Johnnie Cochran. I don't understand this at all. I know that this was the doing of the "big wigs" in the front offices and not of the coaching staff. For the few measly million they would be saving my team has afforded itself some losses that we can't afford to have in the wide-open Eastern Conference.

Everyone knows that the fans in Boston are vicious and will go "Kujo" on any subpar, overweight, soft, fairy of a basketball player though would dare to prance his way onto the court of the Fleet Center. The fans will not come and watch their team lose games, which will then still cost the team millions in revenue.

Mr. Baker and Mr. Williams are not the caliber of players that we need. They haven't affectively contributed as of late to their previous team. Mr. Baker, the FORMER all-star, is a sloppy, overweight has-been whose crying and whining reminds me of Jimmy Swaggert. And Mr. Williams is a second string player on the NCAA level at best.

I am deeply disappointed and outraged at the dealings that have gone on with my team. The biggest disappointment of all is not being able to resign Rodney Rogers who along with Anderson were crucial to our success.

That's my take. Although I still am optimistic about our chances, who wouldn't be though, this is the Eastern Conference we are talking about here.

Da Kid.

Cuban is trying to get the Sonics in a panic so that they'll do something stupid like sign Rashard to a 90 million dollar contract. I cant believe he actually got all those people to the airport and hold signs that say "WE Love you Rashard", hopefully Rashard aint that stupid, and the Sonics arent that stupid. Rashard has incredible potential though still hasnt got to the allstar level, he is only 23 and averages 17 points and 7 rebounds, those numbers should go up significantly though now with the departure of Baker, this should be his year. Just hope he isnt like Kemp and takes the wrong advice from the wrong people.
RCKSoniK
I am so sick of the local papers coverage of the Sonics here. It is like they are trying to destroy the team by themselves. They took a quote from GP's agent out of context from 3 weeks ago and report it now like it was something that was just said. They were saying how GP was unhappy and wanted to be traded, when it wasnt true. They did the same thing with Rashard Lewis. Trying to make it sound like the team is falling apart. When in fact GP has got ahold of Lewis and is trying to get him to stay. Are newspapers like this in other cities or is this something unique here?
RCKSoniK
Are these writers f*cking high, they just make up sh*t when they dont have nothing to write. Chad Ford of espn makes it out so that the Sonics would get rid of Payton and Lewis for Eddie Robinson , Marcus Fizer and Jamal Crawford. Give me a F*ckin break! http://espn.go.com/nba/s/2002/0805/1414288.html
