Tonight's game offers us Randy Johnson (of numerous Cy Young Awards) against the 20-year-old Edwin Jackson, pitching his first game in the major leagues. Jackson is the Dodgers' third double-A pitcher to be called up to the majors. I love this kind of stuff--it's so cinematic!

The D-backs have fallen off the wild-card pace. They have to be feeling a bit desperate. Why are the Dodgers starting a rookie from double-A? Do they have injuries among their usual starters?
I'm surprised that Kevin Brown has managed to stay off the DL this year. Seems like in the past, he'd miss much of the season because of injuries.

Joe: Hideo Nomo was supposed to start tonight's game, but has an injury, so the Dodgers called up Edwin Jackson. Hot damn!! I'll be able to watch the game!!

Don't they have pitchers from AAA. Why are they using guys from AA?

Edwin Jackson pitched six strong innings, allowing four hits and just one run (Robby Hammock's sacrifice fly) in his first game in the major leagues. The Dodgers defeated the listing D'Backs, 4-1. And, Eric Gagne earned his 50th consecutive save this season, stretching his record for consecutive saves to 58.
