Just a random post, but I saw that the NBA has an expansion team next year........where is it at?

I think it's a big mistake, the NBA should be cutting down it's teams just like baseball (although baseball is improving). Maybe it's just my little world, but it seems like interest in the NBA is just falling like none other. I don't know very many people who have interest in the playoffs. I've heard that several games have barely been sell-outs and they usually sell out the day of or day before the game, etc.

I know I don't care for the NBA, so maybe I'm just being ignorant, but if someone who has a passion for the NBA is on this board, care to share your thoughts??

Aren't they going back to Charlotte? I thought I read that the NBA awarded a franchise to Robert Johnson, founder of BET (but I don't pay attention to NBA articles either, so I could be wrong).

Check out this thread where it talks about the new expansion team in Charlotte as well as the realignment.

Fans of the NBA have definitely fallen off in the last couple of years. I think the Western conference dominance is partly to blame. There hasn't really been a close NBA finals since the late 90s when the Bulls & Jazz played. The last couple years the Western conference finals has been more of the NBA finals and that doesn't garner much East coast attention. Except for the Spurs last year, it's been the Lakers/Kings and Lakers/Blazers.

I think interest will return if the East coast gains some ground on the West. I think if Kobe left the Lakers and went into the Eastern conference there would be surge in interest.

The problem with basketball is similar to hockey. Too many teams make the playoffs! It's not that there are too many teams, just that too many make the playoffs and the regular season is not that meaningful. The NFL is on the verge of making the same mistake.

I think the expansion of the first round of playoffs to seven games was also a big mistake. I think the results show that too!

(Newbie here so bare with me) I think the problem is the time off between games rather than the extension to seven games. It sucks to have to wait 3 or 4 days in between. But I would much rather see two good teams go at it for more than five games. Also in terms of the east (which I love to watch) I think it been a lack of a strong rivalry that hurts the ratings there. Sure the Pacers/Pistons did well this year but where were they the last couple of years. From year to year you never know how the east is going to stack up. In the west you always know that the Lakers/Spurs, Dallas/kings matches are going to be good. Just my opinion smile.gif
ps. forget giving Charlotte a another team, bring back the Grizzlies to Vcr

I think the NBA will go back to a Best-of-5 series in the 1st Round of the play-offs next season! The problem w/ the play-offs taking so long is the Media! They want week-end games! The NBA is not losing interest w/ the fans! Just pissing us off!
