WOW the Harlem Globetrotters aren't in the Hall of Fame. I didn't know there was a category they would fit into but if there has been one I would have thought they would have been inducted long ago.
When did this "Contributors" category come about and how is it defined?
Did a little quick surfing and thought I'd save some time for anyone else curious about they're absences:
Apparently only three non-individuals have been inducted by my count:
Past Hall of Fame InducteesAnd the trotters have been around a long time:
Harlem Globetrotters WebsiteThey'd have my vote! Great memories watching those guys.

Congratulations to this years inductees:
Magic Johnson
Larry Brown
Lute Olsen
Drazen Petrovic
Kay Yow
Harlem Globetrotters
Especially pleased to see the late, great Drazen Petrovic get in, especially in the year the Nets make the NBA finals. Petro was the last bright light for the franchise up until now.

Just saw on SportsCenter this morning that the induction ceremony was yesterday. A Friday???? I would have loved to have seen Bird inducting Magic. Anyone know if this was, or will be, televised?

I thought the same thing George....why would they hold the induction ceremonies on a Friday night and, more importantly, with the ever-increasing number of sports television networks today (sans CNN/SI, which I don't think anyone misses) why was it not televised live by one of em?....is this perhaps due to the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield refusing to sell the television rights?....that decision would seem very odd given the revenue to be gained for the Hall and the respectable ratings that it would undoubtably generate for the network (based upon ESPN's viewership for the NFL and MLB induction ceremonies which is at least marginally promoted -- did anyone even KNOW the ceremony was last night prior to the SportsCenter "highlights"?).
FYI, last year I happened to be channel surfing on a Saturday afternoon and caught the tape-delayed telecast of the Basketball Hall of Fame induction ceremonies (on NBC, if memory serves me correctly)....the "introduction" given by Bobby Knight for Mike Krzyzewski followed by Coach K's acceptance speech (which finally put an end to the alleged "feud" generated by the media between these two coaching legends given Coach K's choice of the General to introduce him) were two of the most stirring and emotional speeches I have ever heard -- I only regret not taping it....what was even more confounding to me was the fact that last year's telecast (albeit tape-delayed) received absolutely NO advance publicity whatsoever....I would expect that the same will hold true for last night's ceremonies but I will scan the satellite guide for October to see if there is any indication of if or when it will be televised.

It was televised on ESPN Classic (as were the Baseball HOF induction ceremonies). According to TV Guide, a shortened replay (one hour) will be on ESPN Sunday at 6 pm.

Trivia:???
What was the last NBA team to win an NBA title, without a Hall of Fame player or a player in the All Star game??? the suspense is killing me

Could it be the Seattle Super Sonics? 1978 I think.

Well close, it was 79, 78 they lost to the Bullets, Lenny Wilkens' Sonics' , Jack Sikma, Gus Williams, Dennis Johnson, and Freddie Brown didnt make the Allstar game and none have yet made the Hall of Fame. Wilkens' definetely will maybe after retirement.
