Okay, get your collective minds out of the gutter. But LeBron James, future number #1 pick in the NBA draft, did in fact recieve a $50,000 Hummer from his mom as a gift. She took out a loan based on Lebron's future earnings. Interesting, as stuff like this is not allowed in college. Wonder how long it will take for those in charge to clamp down on the high school players as well.

Hmm... how many unemployed people do you know could walk into a bank and get $50,000 based on potential future earnings. Makes you wonder how noteriety changes all the rules when it comes to money.

I bet there was some impropriety regarding her getting the loan.
It's bad enough so many kids now are trying to go pro right out of high school, and losing college eligibility if they go undrafted or flop as a pro. Why does an 18-year-old need an Hummer with three TVs and a video game outlet? Can't they wait until they actually TURN pro until they start LIVING like one?
This whole LeBron James situation--all the ESPN2 games, traveling all over the country, now this--the whole thing stinks to high heaven.

What if he breaks his leg and has no future earnings--how's his mom going to pay back the loan?

What his mom should have done was taken that $50,000 and got Lebron that insurance that Willis McGahee got. That would have been a far better investment.
Da Kid.

Well I'm assuming somebody with some type of collateral cosigned for the loan. There is an investigation into the loan to see if an agent helped procure it for the James'. If so, he forfeits his amateur eligibility and his team forfeits all their games.
