Junior got hurt in today's game diving to make a catch. Still too early to know how serious the injury is. Hopefully not too serious. It would nice to have him around for a full season just to see what he is still capable of. From ESPN.com:

Ken Griffey Jr. injured his right shoulder Saturday and left the Cincinnati Reds' game against the Chicago Cubs.

Griffey grabbed his right shoulder and rolled on the ground in severe pain after diving for a fly ball in the eighth inning.

It marked the second straight season that the center fielder failed to make it through the first week without an injury. He tore a tendon in his right knee in the Reds' sixth game in 2002, and never fully recovered until after the season.

Griffey turned his back to the infield and tried to run down Paul Bako's drive with the bases loaded and two outs, and the Chicago Cubs leading 6-5. He stretched his right arm and dived, but the ball eluded his outstretched glove.

Griffey landed hard on his right side, rolled over, grabbed the shoulder and kicked his legs in pain. He remained on the ground for several minutes, making no attempt to get up, while teammates ran to him. Bako wound up with a triple.

After trainers reached him, Griffey got up and walked out the center field gate next to the Reds' bullpen, holding his right arm carefully.

Injuries have marred his stay in his hometown. Since the Reds obtained him from Seattle in February 2000, Griffey has sustained a series of leg injuries.

Dislocated shoulder...what tough luck he's had.

\"He's definitely out for a significant amount of time,\" manager Bob Boone said. \"It's not good.\"

His latest major injury occurred in the eighth inning of a 9-7 loss to the Chicago Cubs. As Griffey rolled on the ground in pain Saturday, outfielder Adam Dunn heard a couple of fans at the new ballpark taunt him.

\"The guy's lying there hurting as bad as you could hurt, and you get stupid people up there yelling,\" Dunn said angrily. \"It's a joke.\"

After the shoulder was popped back into place, Griffey was taken to a hospital for tests to determine the extent of the damage.

X-rays found no break. More tests were being done to get an idea how badly the shoulder was hurt when he landed on it with the arm fully extended.

He's got to get out of there. Very bad karma in Cincy. He shouldn't complain about being traded, but should take the first opportunity, once he's healthy, to find a new playing home. Nothing but bad luck for him in his native city.

Sounds like it's a similar injury to Jeter's. Hopefully he'll have a similar prognosis to Jeter and will be able to return in 4 - 6 weeks. I do still think a healthy Griffey is one of the top players in the game, but good grief what an awful run of bad luck he's had in Cincy!

Griffey's done.
His career is over. This is three straight seasons lost to injury. And his numbers have been on a steady downward spiral since 1997.
He's 33. That's not a young age for a major league baseball career to come to an end. His physical conditioning has never been Bondsian (as in Barry), but Griffey's body just can't take the rigors of a major league baseball season anymore.
Time to stop waiting for Griffey to put it all back together.
