Happy New Year, especially to my fellow Yankee fans! The Yankees have made some clever moves and non-moves this off-season, and have remained the pre-season favorite to win yet another AL East title. Of course, our goal is for the Yankees to win their 27th World Series crown!
For a recap of their off-season signings, here are the new Yankees going into the 2006 season:
Johnny Damon--center field
Octavio Dotel--relief pitcher
Kyle Farnsworth--relief pitcher
Mike Myers--relief pitcher
Ron Villone--relief pitcher
Kelly Stinnett--catcher (back-up)

Happy New Year to all Yankee fans. As I mentioned in last year's thread, I liked the moves that the Yankees made this off-season than the last off-season. If the Yankees can keep the injuries to a minimum, they should have an excellent year.

HAPPY NEW YEAR Outsporters!
Here's to another great year of hangin' out on the boards and posting with my fellow Yankee fans. I'm not as up on the stats, as you guys, but I do like how things are shaping up. I do have a question though, who's gonna catch for Johnson?
Cheers,

Keith, I believe Kelly Stinnett, who was with the Diamondbacks last season, will be the personal catcher for Randy Johnson this season.
His 2005 stats: .248 AVG, .419 SLG, .317 OBP, 6 HR, 12 RBI (59 games)

Don't count on it, MM. If I learned anything on the Yankee thread this past season (especially after we lost one mid-season series to the White Sox and the ALDS to the Angels), the Yankee-hating trolls just get more stupid, more vicious, and apparently now more bigoted every year. Since we are supposed to be here discussing the Yankees and enjoying ourselves, I suppose the best we can hope for is that they finally get interested in their own teams instead of trashing ours. Otherwise, I suppose we will just try to ignore them if they still haven't learned.

Quick explanation of "Chill"
As you know, my name is billy (technically William) my sister was home from school sick a long time ago, she was watching cartoons, Chilly Willy the penguin was on, and since then I'm Chill, Chilly, Chilltrick....etc...

While I don't want to harp on this, Joe, I think the big difference is that the Eagle-haters are mostly folks that are at least fans from NFC (your own conference) teams. Most of the crap we get is oddly from fans of NL teams or the fans of the AL flavor of the month. Fans of the Blue Jays, Orioles, Devil Rays, and yes, even the red team, basically just stay out of it.

Individual game tickets haven't gone on sale yet. The website says mid-to-late February. The first day they do (or if there's a presale for season ticket customers) I think we should be able to get tickets without a problem.
Group sales begin January 25th -- I don't know if we'll have enough interest to qualify as a group or not. Maybe scottie knows what the minimum number would be.
My suggestion would be to have those coming in from out of town decide which of the three games we should go to. (Perhaps a separate thread is in order.) The 3 games are: Tues. 6/13 and Wed. 6/14 at 7:05 PM and Thurs. 6/15 at 1:05 PM.

For group sales, we would need a group of 20-25. However, the individual ticket pre-sale for season ticket holders starts in early February. I agree with JIP, pick a date, come up with a body count, and then we'll take it from there.

I forgot it was a weekday series between the Yanks and Phils. After talking about it tonight, Pat125 and I agreed that the Tuesday game would be best for us. However, if you want to set up a thread separately from the Yankees and the Phillies threads to see if others are interested, that would be a great idea. Munson Man, any chance of getting a group together at the Stadium like last year? You always seem to have connections wink . It doesn't have to be the Angels or Massachusetts red team or anything, I think we could settle for a Tampa Bay or Detroit or whatever. ...and of course we would expect you to bring your dishy boyfriend even though he doesn't like sports wink .

Funny numbers game for Bubba Crosby...
He originally wore #19 with the Yankees until Al Leiter came back. Crosby offered #19 to Leiter (which Leiter has worn virtually his whole career) and just took #18. Now that Johnny Damon is with the Yankees, Crosby offered #18 (Damon's uniform number in Massachusetts) and is now taking back #19 since Leiter is no longer with the Yankees and is retired.

Rewarding a 10-0 and 3.20 ERA last season, the Yankees signed Aaron Small to a one-year/$1.2 million contract, with an additional $80,000 in performance bonuses. This now leaves only one of last year's Yankees left in salary arbitration. The Yankees have offered Shawn Chacon $3.1 million--he wants $4.15 million. Hopefully the two sides will come together.

Both Shawn Chacon and Aaron Small both had less than mediocre careers before they both had very good seasons with the Yankees in 2005. They both deserve a chance next season. Nice to see that Small is getting the chance, and hope to see a deal is worked out with Chacon. Looking forward to see them do well in the starting rotation or in long relief.

Hideki Matsui once again had to defend his decision not play the world baseball thing:
"At the same time, being a member of the Yankees, the real part of professional baseball is Major League Baseball and trying to win a championship. This time of the year is a very important time to prepare for the season and that can decide how the season is going to go. It was a very difficult decision for me, but I have no regrets with my decision." Once again, I agree with the decisions of Mariano Rivera and Godzilla, and am very pleased that they are putting the Yankees first. The focus for all Yankees should be solely on winning a 27th World Series Championship.
