DURHAM, N.C. -- In a show of solidarity with the Duke University's men's lacrosse team, members of the school's women's team plan to wear sweatbands with the word "Innocent" written on them.

The university canceled the rest of the season for the highly ranked men's team because of a woman's complaint she was sexually assaulted in March at a team party where she had been hired to perform as an exotic dancer.

I was shocked and somewhat surprised to see this, but I'm glad they are taking this stance and support.

Apparently cooler heads prevailed: instead of a political message, the Duke women's lacrosse team donned the jersey numbers of the accused.

I have one word for them: shameful.

And do you use the same word for the intoxicated, drugged out sex worker/adult dancer, neglectful mother making what appear to be utterly false accusations?

I wish they woulda focused on beating Northwestern instead of focusing on wearing headbands and wristbands....

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Cancelling the season and firing the coach all over an accusation or in this case, a bunch of lies is pathetic and downright wrong. McCarthism?? Point the finger and be burnt at the stake...

Their wearing of armbands clearly indicates more than just solidarity in this case.

And one of those fine upstanding fellows was just convicted of criminal assault in a separate matter. I think there may be some individuals more deserving of support and solidarity than these lacrosse heroes.
