Anyone? Okay, I will go. We (the Golden Gophers) beat 11th ranked Stanford 84-77 in the final of the Subway Classic and did it without Jamie Broback this weekend who was our leading scorer and rebounder last season! Go Gophers!

My Cyclones won a close one over IUPUI, but considering we were playing with only 7 scholarship players we did pretty well. Our first test comes on Friday against NC State in the Junkanoo Jam down in the Bahamas. The Wolfpack lost to St. Joseph's on Sunday.

We're gonna be up for the ISU @ Minnesota game next month. The athletic department is organizing a bus trip up.

Duke looks really good and will be extremely tough. UConn has been impressive, winning the WNIIT; however, I'm still not sold that Renee Montgomery is going to hold up as a strong force at the pg position.

As always, the teams out West (namely Stanford, UCLA, ASU) are extremely overrated and can't compete with the teams in the East.

Georgia has been the biggest dissappointment so far, after getting waxed by Baylor and only beating Santa Clara by 1 point.

That's cool you all are coming up on a bus for this. We rank in the top 5 for Women's Basketball attendance last year, so Williams Arena might be sold out! Lots of Cyclones (and of course Gophers) alum in the area.

I pointed out in another thread that GA was in trouble. Three or four players were gone by the time the season opened. Even though only one player was expected to play full-time, it hits the team dynamic, and it is showing.

Several teams are off to a good start. There are many exciting games this season.

Thursday night enjoy some post-turkey bball with MSU vs. Tennessee from the Virgin Islands. It has the potential to be a barn-burner. (Of course, Tennessee could run awayy with it as well.)

Tennessee is coming to Durham in January, and my sister, her friends, and I are headed to the game. It could be a 1 vs 2 matchup. I would prefer my Spartans to win Thursday and knock Tennessee down a spot or two, though.

I will also see Duke vs. UNC, NC State vs both of them, and maybe another interesting matchup or two.

Hello everybody,
I'm new to the place and a huge fan of women's basketball -- love the pure, below-the-rim game they play. On the other hand, my own small obsession, the Tennessee Lady Vols, have a red shirt freshman in Candace Parker, who may push change to that aspect of the women's game.
Living in Canada, I won't get to see the MSU game, but I'm hoping for a little satisfaction after that miserable loss in the final four last year! I have subscribed to see the other two games from the Paradise Jam online at CSTV.com. This will be the first time since I moved to Canada 4 1/2 years ago that I'll get to SEE a game and not just listen to internet radio broadcast of a game. Pumped up for Friday and Saturday nights!
Tennessee opened strong against teams that are respectable in their own right, though not really in Tennessee's league. Their real first test, as previously noted, will be Thursday night against the strong MSU Spartans.
I'll be out of town for the next two days, but I'll look forward to discussing the games at the Paradise Jam when I'm back on Friday.
Happy Thanksgiving!

How I wish Fox Sports Northwest carried as many women's basketball games as other regions do!

I did get to see Maryland overpower Gonzaga yesterday, but the Tennessee/MSU game was not shown. Instead there was poker. Since when is a card game a sport?

While I deplore Baylor University's official homophobia, I am a big fan of Kim Mulkey-Robertson and the Lady Bears. Will they repeat as national champions? Probably not. But they will give Big 12 and non-conference opponents all they can handle.

Sophia Young is a legitimate player of the year candidate. Angela Tisdale, just a sophomore, has blossomed into a fantastic point guard. Abi Wabara is a monster on the boards.

The surprise of this season is freshman Rachel Allison for whom tie-up stats are being kept. If only the 6'1" Allison could jump on those tie-ups!

Today's SF Chronicle had a feature on the Paris twins, Courtney and Ashley, now at Oklahoma. The 6'4" young women are the daughters of former 49ers lineman Bubban Paris. Another bloodline daughter at Oklahoma is Abi Olajuwon, Hakeem's daughter.
I agree, women's basketball is rarely on TV, even the "glamor" teams like Tennessee and UConn. Local channels carry Stanford men but not women even though the women are a better team.

Well, not exactly. CPTV (Connecticut Public Television) has been broadcasting UConn Women's basketball for years. As a matter of fact, they broadcast like most of the season. I don't know about the Vols. I do know I'll be watching tonight's broadcast. Jen Rizzotti makes her second attempt at surpassing her teacher as my alma mater the Hartford Hawks take on Geno's Huskies at the Hartford Civic Center.
Ms. de Blazer
Keith, that is local in your market. I'm talking more national. They broadcast games not just by the "name" men's programs but Podunk Junior College vs. Cowtown Academy but women?
I'm glad, thought, that UConn is at least on locally. More than I can say for Stanford in the Bay Area. The women win more than the men, but the men get about 5 times as much TV and 3 times as much press.

THAT's gotta suck.

As a footnote, the Lady Hawks were defeated 72 - 47.

Is Ohio State going to play anyone in the non-conference season besides the little sisters of the poor??? Every other team in the top 20 has. Go Gophers!

Hey, I can't let that Pac-10 "extremely overrated" remark pass unchallenged.

Only one school in the Pac-10 (Stanford) began the season in the top 15, so we didn't start out being rated very highly. Since then ASU has beaten New Mexico, and only lost by 7 to UNC (who beat UConn by 23). UCLA lost to Baylor and OK but beat Georgia. USC lost to ND but beat TCU. Yeah, Stanford lost to MN and TN, but was even with each with two minutes left to play. That's not exactly getting blown out. Every one of the top Pac-10 teams has risen in the polls since the season began. No that's not as good as some teams, but it's also way better than others.

I don't know why the Pac-10 keeps getting dissed, although I think the time change and Eastern people's not seeing us play has a lot to do with it. But we did very well in the NCAAs last year, and are recruiting better as a result. We're doing pretty darn well, and look forward to beating some of y'all in the future!

It's so nice to see all these fans of WCB. I the season is still young but lots to talk about. I can't wait to see Ohio State vs LSU next week on ESPN. That is going to be an exciting game.

I know everyone is waiting for Candace Parker to dunk at Tennessee..hehe..I have been impressed with Duke, Baylor, and Maryland thus far. It will be interesting to see how far those teams can go.

My final four right now is:

Duke, Ohio State, Maryland, and Tennessee
