New York City's Newsday had an article about the Dodgers being interested in Robbie Alomar. Players being mentioned to go to the Mets are Omar Daal and Adrian Beltre.

They must be kidding. Next to Bruce Chen, Omar Daal is one of the biggest journeyman pitcher flops. And Adrian Beltre has never been a consistent productive 3rd baseman.

Don't make this move Steve Phillips! If you want to trade Alomar get some young players instead.

It's star policy in Shea Stadium.

The Mets are obsessed with gettng the same amount of press time as the Yankees, which means they are more interested in putting "names" on the field than developing young talent. Mo Vaughn generates more headlines in the New York media than Edgardo Alfonso, so Mo, a fat useless washed-up tub of cow manure, is the highest paid player on the Mets payroll.

Alomar has trade value. Mo, or Jeromy Burnitz, does not. So Phillips will trade Alomar for another "big name," and get headlines for talking trade. A win/win!

CITT, winning is what keeps the Mets close to even footing with the Yankees... The Worst Team Money Could Buy of the early '90s was a "name" team that derailed the franchise til '98. To be somewhat fair to Phillips, the Mo move was the only one that looked dubious at the time it was made (although we might add the less expensive acquisitions of the now-crashing Estes and D'Amico)...

While Alomar's first-half performance is puzzling, the NY Times pointed out today he had similarly subpar numbers in 2000...until he hit .359 in the second half. So let's wait.
