In the first paragraph of the Sports Illustrated (May 29 issue) article about David Wright, 'Prince of the City,' one finds this sentence:
"Roughly half the unwed women in Queens--and about a third of the unwed queens in Queens--want the budding superstar for a husband."
The author of the piece, Franz Lidz, was obviously trying for what he thought was an amusing turn of phrase, but for some reason, for me, it stood out like a sore thumb.

Yeah I had a laugh about that, seems he forgets the hundreds if not thousands of gay men who could be attracted to him too

I thought he was referring to gay men.

The article did refer to gay men (thus the "unwed queens in Queens" turn of phrase.) I found the sentence I posted rather demeaning to women and gay men as it implies the sole reason they could possibly be fans of David Wright is his good looks. Many women and many gay men enjoy seeing a well-played game, even if the players aren't husband material.
