For all his talent and achievements, why does he so often act like such a butthead?

He signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox with the understanding that it would become a major league contract if he made the team. He did, but now he won't sign the major league deal. And he won't say why...

Henderson signed with the Red Sox today. Neither party has spelled out the details. Who do you suppose won this negotiation?

Thats too bad. I was kind of hoping Rickey would be done and he'd be free to open a Bed and Breakfast with Derek Bell. Maybe there are a few younger Red Sox who need gin rummy lessons!

It's foolish to compare Rickey -- who at age 41 last year compiled a .366 on-base pct -- to someone as useless on the field as Derek Bell.

For all the flak Rickey caught over the overblown clubhouse card game, the Mets would not have made the playoffs in '99 without him. He should be able to justify a roster spot until he can't draw walks anymore!

Obviously I don't think Bell can carry Henderson's jock talentwise. Bell is a complete and utter hack. I was merely making an observation about their mutual "Me First" attitudes. I certainly think that someone can be a Hall of Famer and an ass**** all in one!

It's funny how athletes are not allowed to be self-absorbed, while entertainers can be celebrated for it...(Rosie O, La Ciccone, etc.) And let's remember that Rickey H has made supportive comments about gay athletes, not something you'll hear from many "classy" all-American, squeaky clean athletes
