YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING...THE US SOCCER TEAM UPSETS ONE OF THE TOP 5 TEAMS IN THE WORLD...WHAT WERE YOU GUYS THINKING!!!
Jim Allen
Well, the fact that both of them dislike the REAL football, except when it provides Picture This fodder, might be a factor.

And no need to yell by typing ALL CAPS there, Uclaute.

Whoa boys..the top story this week is the USA's win over Portugal regardless of how many soccer or football players appear in picture this. It's historic and mind boggling that they could beat the number 5 team in the world and set themselves up for a big game match with South Korea. No one in the soccer world would have predicted this outcome in their dreams just a few days ago. Let's give the USA guys all our support and hope there is no let down and they advance to the knockout round.

All right! Looks like we're finally starting to hum a little(see my posts on May 19.)

BTW I know I've been screaming with the soccer photos so I have started to self-regulate, with small shots and links to larger ones, but I thought we soccerdudes were under-represented and needed to..try a little harder. Sorry guys

USA winning a game in soccer, even if it's a big upset, isn't a big deal here because most sports fans don't care about the sport. If they seriously threaten to win the whole thing, then it'll get more attention.

Hey, the Lions cut Charlie Batch. Now THAT's important news!

The reason I didn't make the US the top was simply that the match was 24 hours old by the time most of you had seen the item. In hindsight, I should have included it along with the NBA Finals.

Contrary to the Jim Allen conspiracy theory, we try and feature all sports in TB, but frankly I do have a life and don't spend all day trolling the sports wire for items.

BTW, we did start a separate soccer forum 3 months ago and it's gotten relatively few postings. Also, gay.com and Planet Out both ran our World Cup for the Clueless piece. The WC is a great event; though I could care less, I know others do.

BTW,

FYI, the Picture this item is the Argentine team
feature Batistuta (known as Batigol) doing his Heisman pose and the bald guy next to him is Juan Veron (who plays with Manchester United).

Not to jump on Jim and Cyd's back -- but while the going's good -- in today's bottom a slight understatement ... France not only needs to beat Denmark -- they need to do so by two goals -- a bit more daunting task. GO DENMARK!!

Thanks for the Picture This correction. The site was in Italian, which I don't read.

It is an awesome picture, compelling in a funny way.

Thanks Bucky for your heads-up.

I'm serious:
If any of you soccer devotees want to write a Top or a Bottom on a particular day send it to mailto:mail@outsports.commail@outsports.com I like the items to reflect the fact that we know what we're talking about.

You don't? What's up with that???

England 1, Argentina 0, goal (on a penalty) by Beckham. Revenge for 1998; maybe not Top worthy, but I'm happy.
DCBucky
Jim & Cyd -- you know the most popular game going on around here is busting your chops!

I agree with Jim Allen that England over Argentina -- with Beckham as the hero -- is the top story so far today -- just in the context of their great soccer history (never mind the Malvinas!): read the last paragraphs of this article.

But you've got a tough weekend ahead of you! -- as mentioned in another post -- deciding between World Cup, French Open, NBA playoffs, NHL playoffs, Tyson fight, first weekend of interleague play featuring Red Sox v AZ, Yanks v Giants ... I'm sure I'm leaving something else out. Good luck!

Hello? What about the Padres-Devil Rays series?

Seriously though, add the possibility of the first Triple Crown winner in 25 years! Maybe some kooky sportswriter will name War Emblem one of the 50 Greatest Athletes of the 21st century come the year 2100!
